News4JAX Super 6 flag football: Clay moves up, Bradford moves into final rankings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX flag football team will be published Wednesday’s throughout the regular season. Records are through April 9 games.

Rank, previous, school, record, classification

1. (1) Fleming Island (13-0, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Clay, Middleburg, New Smyrna Beach, Ocala Forest, Paxon, Stanton.

Glance: The Golden Eagles are in the District 3-2A championship against Oakleaf on Wednesday night. There’s no reason to think that Fleming Island won’t continue its reign over area teams and push on deep into the postseason again. The Golden Eagles routed Orange Park in the district semis 40-7. London Jenkins has accounted for 29 offensive touchdowns and has nine interceptions.

2. (2) White (14-3, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Fletcher (twice), Mandarin, Raines, Sandalwood, Stanton (twice), Westside.

Glance: The Commanders upped their winning streak to seven games since our last Super 6, including a 7-0 win over Fletcher to nail down the Gateway Conference title. They beat Ridgeview on Tuesday night (21-13) to win the District 6-1A crown. QB Tyra Pierce and Kyra Jackson are powering the Commanders into the playoffs.

3. (4) Clay (8-1, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Middleburg, Orange Park, Sandalwood, Santa Fe, Yulee.

Glance: The Blue Devils drilled Florida Deaf (32-0) since our last Super 6 and face St. Augustine in the Distrist 8-1A opener on Wednesday night. They should reach the district final and face either Menendez or Palatka.

4. (5) Fletcher (9-3, Class 2A)

Notable wins: Paxon (twice), Sandalwood (twice).

Glance: The Senators lost to White in the Gateway title game (7-0), but had wins over Paxon and Sandalwood in the tournament. They added a district tournament win over Sandalwood and will face Mandarin in the District 4-2A championship on Wednesday night.

5. (3) Paxon (11-3, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Raines, Sandalwood, Stanton.

Glance: The Golden Eagles lost to Fletcher in the Gateway semis and then beat Fernandina Beach (37-13) in the District 5-1A semis. They face Raines for the district crown on Thursday.

T6. (NR) Bradford (7-1, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Buchholz, Middleburg.

Glance: The Tornadoes have been squeezed by a lack of games and the schedule has been lean. Three of their seven wins have come over Keystone Heights. Their lone loss is to a 10-1 Trinity Catholic and they’ve got Middleburg for the District 4-1A title on deck Wednesday.

T6. (6) Stanton (8-4, Class 1A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Fletcher, Yulee.

Glance: The Blue Devils lost to White (7-6) in the Gateway tournament, but bounced back to rock Jackson (46-18) in the District 7-1A opener. They’ve got Englewood in the final next on Wednesday.
