JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The NFL offseason continues to move along. The Jaguars started organized team activities this week, the return to the football field as a team. Every OTA is important especially for the Jaguars defense since they have a new defensive coordinator in Ryan Nielsen.

“Yeah, he’s a little bit of character but we enjoy him know, he comes with the energy every day” safety Andre Cisco said of Nielsen.

Cisco continued to say that “he talks about being attacking an aggressive defense.”

Cisco has been a big part of what the Jaguars have done defensively for the last few seasons. Now going into his fourth year, is going into the final season of his rookie contract. Cisco said that he is approaching this season just like any other.

“I can’t do much about it except to be me,” Cisco said. “It’s a lot of external factors in that, you know, so I’ll just keep trusting God and, and walking the walk. Each and every year has been a challenge. So, it just presents a different one.”

Cisco is just as interesting off the football field as he is on it. Last offseason, Cisco tried stand-up comedy for the first time. This offseason, he spent more of his focus on music.

“I just enjoy it as a hobby. I find it to be a good way of expression for myself,” he said.

Cisco’s artist name is “Deeski” a nickname he got in high school at IMG Academy.

“I really enjoy music like I’ve always been like any time a song comes on I’m dancing you know,” he said. “It’s a lot to do with my faith and you know the struggles of life each and every day and trusting God. So, I felt like it was important to you know, just let that go out and let it affect you know one person, two people and it’s good enough for me. It’s music.”

Notebook

  • Offseason rule No. 1 — No pads or contact so don’t overreact to any clips or hot takes.
  • The depth chart is nonexistent right now.
  • Arik Armstead watching from the sideline. He is still recovering from offseason surgery.
  • Foye Oluokun was in an orange non-contact jersey.
  • Roy Roberson-Harris watched from the side with his foot in a walking boot.
  • Gabe Davis is still limited but missed the first OTA after the birth of his child over the weekend.
  • Darnell Savage, Jarrian Jones and Christian Braswell spent the day rotating on the inside of the secondary.
  • Yasir Abdullah didn’t get on the field much as a rookie. Ryan Nielsen talked about him working at different positions in the defense. He is a guy worth keeping an eye on.
  • Brian Thomas Jr. had a rookie kind of day. Ups and downs. The down was a dropped pass during 7 on 7 that hit him right in the hands.
