Baldwin’s softball team suffered another state semifinal heartbreak to a familiar foe.
The Indians had the bases loaded with no outs in both the eighth and ninth innings and couldn’t scratch out the winning run. Instead, Calvary Christian took advantage of those extra opportunities and won 6-3 in the Class 3A state semifinals in Clermont. It marked the third final four loss in as many seasons to Calvary, which beat Baldwin 5-3 in eight innings in 2022 and 7-4 last year.

This one likely qualified as the most painful of those for the Indians (29-2).
Baldwin tied things at 3-all in the bottom of the eighth on a single by Rylan Gray, and loaded the bases with no outs in that inning. But the Indians stalled out and couldn’t push in the winner. Again, in the ninth, the Indians had the bases loaded with outs to spare and couldn’t capitalize, including a runner tagged out at home trying to score on a passed ball.
