JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Icemen wasted no time in filling their head coaching vacancy, promoting Brandon Mashinter as their new leader on Monday morning.
Mashinter spent the last three seasons in Jacksonville working as an assistant to Nick Luukko, who led the Icemen to three of the best seasons in franchise history. Luukko resigned last Saturday to take a position with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

“First and foremost, I would like to congratulate Nick Luukko on his deserving accomplishment and move up to the AHL,” Mashinter said in a statement.
“I am excited and honored to continue to build on the foundation and culture that we started to build three years ago. I would like to express thanks to Andy Kaufmann, Scott Einhorn and Joe Ernst for the opportunity to be the next head coach of the Jacksonville Icemen.”
Mashinter logged action in 64 NHL games during a playing career that stretched from 2009 to 2021. He spent time with the San Jose Sharks, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks.
