He’ll try to become the first male swimmer in history to medal in three straight Olympics in the 100 and 200 back. Murphy will compete in the 200 back on Wednesday in the heats and semis. The final would be Thursday if Murphy qualifies.
Murphy won gold in those two events in 2016 and then went silver in the 200 back and bronze in the 100 back in the 2020 Games. He was also a member of the gold-medal winning 4x100 medley relay team in 2016 and again in 2020.
