High school football ‘24: Friday night scoreboard and looking ahead to Week 2

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The opening week of the high school football season is in the books and what a night it was.

Three Super 10 matchups headlined a stacked Week 1, with Raines topping Bolles 32-23 in the Varsity 4 Game of the Week to end a four-game losing streak to the Bulldogs. It was the Vikings’ first win over the Bulldogs since a 34-8 romp in the 2015 playoffs.

Top-ranked Mandarin ended a three-year losing streak to Creekside with a 57-13 blowout of the No. 9 Knights. The Mustangs face rival Atlantic Coast in Week 2 in a battle for the Principal’s Cup.

No. 7 Bradford stretched its winning streak over rival and No. 8 Baker County to five with a 13-7 win over the host Wildcats.

In the night’s biggest surprise, Oakleaf hammered No. 6 Riverside 35-7. The Knights lost six of their final seven games last season but started 2024 with a romp.

Nease kept its hot streak going over rival and 10th-ranked Ponte Vedra in a convincing 24-7 win. The Panthers have won back-to-back games against their biggest rival and three of the last four in the series.

Beachside stretched its area-best winning streak to 10 games with a 42-16 win over Orlando Christian Prep. The Barracudas haven’t lost since Week 1 2023. In South Georgia, reigning Class 2A state champ Pierce County won its 10th straight game with a 41-7 romp over Coosa Christian, Ala.
