High school football ‘24: Scoreboard from Friday night’s games and looking ahead to Week 4

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It was a wet and nasty Friday night for area high school football programs in Week 3.

Torrential rain canceled the Varsity 4 Game of the Week clash between Bolles and St. Augustine, and most other games faced delays of some kind as weather ravaged the area. Among big winners were Super 10 No. 1 Mandarin, which pummeled rival Sandalwood 41-0 behind freshman quarterback Knox Annis and a wicked tough defense. Annis was making his first start in place of injured starter and Elite 11 quarterback Tramell Jones.

Jones is expected to miss the rest of the season with a leg injury. The Saints (0-3) are mired in a slow start in a rebuild. They’ve been held scoreless in each game this season.

No. 3 Raines got a scare from Trinity Christian, falling behind in the opening half before a wicked close in a 48-23 win.

St. Joseph and Zarephath Academy continued their surging starts. The Flashes walloped Old Plank Christian 34-14 and the Eagles rolled over Hollis Christian 54-0. St. Joseph and Zarephath are both 4-0.

The best game of the week came on Thursday night with No. 9 Bartram Trail winning on a two-point conversion run in overtime by Neko Dawkins to stun Ware County 43-42. The Bears (2-1) jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter only for the Gators to go up 35-28 late in the fourth quarter before an Arthur Lewis 72-yard touchdown run tied things late. Ware County scored first in OT before Bartram countered with a touchdown run by Dawkins. He added a two-point run after that for the clincher.
