Rank, previous, School, Record, Classification

1. (2) Raines (4-0, Class 3A)

Last week: Off. This week: vs. Riverside (3-2), Monday, 5:30 p.m.

Glance: A new No. 1 team for the second week in a row and the Vikings make the move up. They’ve got an always challenging game against the Generals up next in one of their most difficult games left in the regular season.

2. (3) Bradford (4-0, Class 2A)

Last week: Off. This week: vs. Keystone Heights (2-2), Wednesday, 5 p.m.

Glance: The Tornadoes knocked off previous No. 1 Mandarin in Week 4 and should have a relatively clear path to their second consecutive 10-0 season. Palatka in Week 7 and Newberry in Week 8 are the only somewhat challenging games left.

3. (5) Nease (4-0, Class 6A)

Last week: beat St. Augustine, 35-34 (OT). This week: vs. Gainesville Buchholz (3-2).

Glance: The Panthers beat giant St. Augustine for the first time in coach Collin Drafts’ tenure, surging back from a 21-0 deficit for a gut check OT win. And talk about a tough game this week to follow in the talented and perennially good Bobcats.

4. (1) St. Augustine (3-1, Class 6A)

Last week: lost to Nease, 35-34 (OT). This week: at Columbia (2-3), Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Glance: The loss against the Panthers revealed some flaws on the defensive side of the ball that had been percolating this season. St. Augustine was outscored 35-13 in the second half and OT. The offense is doing its part but the defense has to play better.

5. (6) Bolles (3-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat Oakleaf, 57-50. This week: vs. Baldwin (2-3), postponed.

Glance: The Bulldogs made it through the tough front side of the schedule at 3-1, with a Week 3 game scrubbed due to weather. They have some injuries worth monitoring, including to RB Emmett Grzebin that could cause them to shake things up on that side of the ball.

6. (7) Ponte Vedra (3-1, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Menendez, 40-0. This week: at Fleming Island (2-2).

Glance: The Sharks have won three straight since a Week 1 loss to Nease. The back side of the of their schedule is challenging, and that starts this week in a District 3-5A clash at Fleming Island.

7. (4) Mandarin (3-2, Class 6A)

Last week: lost to IMG Academy, 49-6. This week: vs. First Coast (2-2), canceled.

Glance: It’s been a difficult stretch for the Mustangs, who started at No. 1 this year. They’ve dropped back-to-back games, including a blowout at IMG last week. Take that loss with a grain of salt. IMG may be the best team in the country. The back half of the schedule is difficult, too, especially with a banged up roster.

8. (8) Baker County (3-1, Class 3A)

Last week: beat Baldwin, 45-24. This week: at Tallahassee Godby (4-2), postponed to Oct. 3.

Glance: Three straight wins for the Wildcats, whose only loss came in Week 1 to Bradford (13-7). District opener at Godby is going to be a tough one, although the tropical storm has pushed that game to next week. That means their makeup game at Ponte Vedra is now canceled.

9. (NR) Beachside (3-1, Class 5A)

Last week: beat Bishop Kenny, 41-8. This week: vs. Menendez (2-2), Wednesday, 6 p.m.

Glance: The knock on the Barracudas was that they hadn’t played stiff competition until the last few weeks. They’ve answered that asterisk with two quality performances in back-to-back games. They lost to Ponte Vedra on a late field goal and then crushed a Bishop Kenny team that had Bolles on the ropes. Beachside is on the rise. .

10. (10) Bartram Trail (3-2, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Orange Park, 45-7. This week: at Tocoi Creek (3-1), Wednesday, 6 p.m.

Glance: The Bears did what they should have last week in crushing Orange Park. They’ve got what could be a tricky district opener against Tocoi Creek before an off week and then a brutal October with Nease, St. Augustine and Gainesville Buchholz over a three-week stretch.

Dropped out

Oakleaf (3-2, Class 6A).
