Varsity 4 Super 6 volleyball: Record for Fletcher star and Fleming Island moves into rankings

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The News4JAX Varsity 4 Super 6 high school volleyball rankings will be published each Wednesday during the regular season. Records are through Sept. 25 games.

Rank, school, record, classification

1. (1) Middleburg (13-3, Class 5A)

Notable win: Bob Jones (Ala.), Fleming Island, Jackson Academy (Miss.), Ponte Vedra, Providence, Timber Creek, Trinity Christian.

Glance: The Broncos swept Oakleaf and Trinity Christian since our last Super 6 and are off until Friday, pending the Tropical Storm Helene aftermath. Middleburg is the unquestioned No. 1 team in the area. In the FHSAA’s first power rankings of the year, Middleburg is No. 3 in 5A behind Chiles and Beachside. Brooke Forkum (195 kills) and Camden Rahn (172 kills) are closing in on 200 kills. Morgan Padgett hit the 800 career dig milestone in the win over Trinity.

2. (2) Bishop Kenny (13-3, Class 4A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Creekside, Fleming Island, Gainesville, Providence, Wesley Chapel, Windermere.

Glance: The Crusaders went 3-0 since our last Super 6, including a 3-2 win (15-12) over No. 3 Beachside on Tuesday night. They’ve won four in a row after a loss to Chiles, a state championship contender in Class 5A. The Crusaders debuted at No. 3 in the FHSAA power rankings in Class 4A on Tuesday, trailing only Santa Feand longtime nemesis Bishop Moore. Olivia Ryno (161 kills) and Sofia Muino (133 kills) are leading Kenny.

3. (3) Beachside (11-3, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Bolles, Creekside, Flagler Palm Coast, New Smyrna Beach, Ponte Vedra, Providence, Trinity Christian.

Glance: The Barracudas went 1-1 since our last Super 6, sweeping previous No. 4 Creekside and then losing a 3-2 thriller to No. 2 Bishop Kenny. They’ve got tournament action scheduled on Friday provided things shake out in the area after the storm. Adriana Jeanpierre (165 kills) is closing in on the 200-kill mark. Beachside opened the FHSAA power rankings in Class 5A at No. 2 in the state, just ahead of Middleburg.

4. (5) Ponte Vedra (11-3, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Beachside, Bolles, Episcopal, Harvest, Jupiter, Providence, Trinity Christian.

Glance: The Sharks have won six straight, including a high quality W over a 16-4 Jupiter since our last Super 6. They’ve got Lake Highland Prep up next on Friday. Leah Grall (100 kills) landed on the triple-digit kills mark since our last update. Railey Player (82 kills), Ryan Murphy (74 kills) and Lily Keely (70 kills) should be next. The Sharks came in at No. 4 in Class 5A in the initial FHSAA power rankings.

5. (NR) Fletcher (12-1, Class 6A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, Episcopal, Fleming Island, Navarre, St. Augustine.

Glance: The Senators have won five straight since a 3-2 loss to rival Mandarin. The schedule has been a little lean but Fletcher has notched some quality Ws, the best over Fleming and Navarre. Katie Issendorf surpassed a career milestone this week, recording her 759th kill, a program record. She’s had 231 of those this season. Jemma Lerian has 98 kills and should crack triple digits next week.

T6. (4) Creekside (12-4, Class 7A)

Notable wins: Atlantic Coast, Bartram Trail, Bishop Snyder, Bolles, Fleming Island (twice), New Smyrna Beach, Orange Park, Tocoi Creek.

Glance: The Knights went 1-1 since our last Super 6, beating Fernandina Beach and losing to No. 3 Beachside. They’re back in action next week against Bartram Trail. Vivian Scuteri (156 kills), Sarahbelle Jameson (135 kills) and Bridget Spees (111 kills) lead the Creekside triple threat at the net.

T6. (NR) Fleming Island (13-6, Class 5A)

Notable wins: Bartram Trail, Bishop Snyder, Harvest, Mandarin, New Smyrna Beach, Orange Park, Santa Fe, Tocoi Creek

Glance: The Golden Eagles are surging. They’ve won five in a row, including 3-2 over previously ranked Mandarin. They’ve also got one of the best wins locally coming against Santa Fe. Emily Topp and Lillie Eason have combined for 203 kills. They are ranked No. 6 in Class 5A in the FHSAA power rankings and 56th in the state.
