MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – It’s a start to the season that the Middleburg Broncos haven’t experienced in a long time.

“It’s a great little run we’re going on here,” Middleburg head coach Ryan Wolfe said. “Hopefully we can keep it going.”

In fact, the last time this team started the season 5-0 was back in 1989.

“I was starting to think about it,” Middleburg senior safety Jaden Boyd said. “I was like ‘how old was I’? I was like ‘I wasn’t even thought of yet’.”

“I’ve been doing this a long time and I’ve only went undefeated one season in 21 years so you never know when you’re going to have that opportunity so we have to make sure we make the best of it,” Wolfe said.

Their undefeated record does not tell the whole story either. The Broncos have outscored their opponents 130-6 in the first five weeks of the season.

“We kind of knew this summer that we had a good-looking group,” Wolfe said. “We knew that because of all the dedication that we put in the offseason. Everybody was showing up. Our attendance was great. Like I said we knew we had a good group of players. We returned a lot of our starters.”

Middleburg has already reached their win total from each of the past three seasons: 2021 (5-5), 2022 (5-6), 2023 (5-6). Which is not surprising to head coach Ryan Wolfe nor the seniors on the team who have been together for four seasons.

“I think it’s the overall buy in,” Wolfe said. “This is our fourth year here. The last few years we were the only team in Clay County to make the playoffs both years. I think a lot of those players are starting to see the system that we have here and the culture that we have here works.”

“I think this team has grown a lot,” Middleburg senior quarterback Carson Stewart said. “We’re getting better as the season goes on. The coaches have really helped us out. They have a good game plan for us.”

Middleburg is halfway to its goal of finishing the regular season undefeated and completing the goal they set out to accomplish this offseason.

“To become district champs,” Middleburg senior defensive tackle Bernard Carter said. “We want to go 10-0 so like that’s how we’re playing.”

The Broncos second half of their schedule gets increasingly harder with tougher competition including two games against Super 10 teams: Week 7 vs. #6 Ponte Vedra & Week 8 vs. #9 Beachside.
