JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars season is back and our News4JAX sports staff is back with its predictions as well. Each week, we’ll unveil our predictions for the week’s game. Jacksonville (1-5) is in a funk and will try and end that against the Patriots (1-5) on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

It feels like deja vu, but Jamal and I are in the same boat. I cannot confidently pick the Jaguars to win a game until they start playing better complementary football and finishing. Trevor Lawrence said after the loss to Chicago last week that the team can’t be so “fragile.” Right now, whenever something goes wrong, they are unable to recover and the game just gets away from them. Unless they can fix that, they aren’t winning any games anytime soon. They must play better together and eliminate the careless errors. I hope I am wrong but give the Patriots in a low-scoring game— Patriots 17, Jaguars 13.

The Jaguars are on a race to the top of the NFL draft board, not something anyone here expected at the beginning of the season. There are so many things wrong with Jacksonville right now and it’s not something that I think can be fixed on the fly. Trevor Lawrence needs some confidence and better receivers. The defense is awful. But if the Jaguars can’t beat what looks like the worst team in the NFL then this season is officially over. They’ve already lost to some of the worst teams in Miami and Cleveland. A trifecta of losing to New England would make me leave Doug Pederson and Co. in London. — Jaguars 24, Patriots 21.

Season record: 3-3.

According to Doug Pederson, it’s a race to 20, so why not 21. My morale is low just like my record this season. The Jaguars need to beat the Patriots, but we say that every week. And every week, except for one, we’ve been disappointed. But how do you not beat a team with a starting quarterback playing in his second NFL game? I’ve given up on my record. Hopefully the Jaguars haven’t. — Jaguars 21, Patriots 17.

Jamal St. Cyr

Season record: 2-4.

I can’t do it. It is supposed to be a race to 20 points but what have we seen from the Jags defense that gives anyone confidence that they can hold the Patriots to less than 20 points? Nothing. I just can’t pick the Jags to win right now, even against the Patriots. It is a sad sad state of affairs. — Patriots 30, Jaguars 28.

Bonus picks from Hard Rock bets:

Patriots: +6

Drake Maye: over 196.5 passing yards

Amari Cooper: over 38.5 receiving yards
