Rank, previous, School, Record, Classification

1. (1) Raines (7-0, Class 3A)

Last week: beat Creekside 44-14. This week: at Yulee (2-6).

Glance: The Vikings blew open a tight game with a wicked final quarter to pound the high-powered Knights in Week 9. QB TJ Cole is in the conversation as the top offensive player in the area and he’s got an excellent supporting cast in the backfield and pass catchers. A win over Yulee would deliver the District 3-3A title.

2. (2) Nease (6-0, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Atlantic Coast 44-12. This week: at Tocoi Creek (4-4).

Glance: The Panthers’ first game since Sept. 30 was a romp. They’ve allowed just 77 points this season, a credit to defensive coordinator Ryan Garth. Nearly half of those came in an OT game against St. Augustine (35-34). Nease closes with three St. Johns County teams (Tocoi Creek, Beachside, Bartram Trail) and there’s no reason to think that it can’t finish with its first unbeaten regular season since 2006.

3. (3) St. Augustine (6-1, Class 6A)

Monday night: beat Bartram Trail 48-21. This week: vs. Ridgeview (1-7).

Glance: The Yellow Jackets used two strong defensive performances in the span of five days to clobber Clay and Bartram Trail. St. Augustine was plus-8 in the turnover battle in those two games and the result was wins by a combined 77 points. They will have another opportunity to get the backups plenty of work this week before a clash with Mandarin in Week 11.

4. (4) Bolles (7-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat (10) Riverside 38-19. This week: at Wolfson (1-7), 6:30 p.m.

Glance: The Bulldogs continue to rumble along. They’ve won seven straight since a Week 1 loss to Raines and have already locked up the District 4-2A title and home playoff game. This week is their regular season finale barring adding a game in the newly created Week 12. Bolles will get two weeks off before the state playoffs begin.

5. (5) Oakleaf (6-2, Class 6A)

Monday night: beat White, 28-14. This week: vs. (7) Mandarin (6-2).

Glance: The Knights are a really good team and they showed that again in a tough win over the Commanders last week. They’re sitting good in the FHSAA rankings right now (fourth in Region 1-6A) and would lock in a home playoff game and the District 2-6A title with a win over Mandarin.

6. (6) Bradford (7-1, Class 2A)

Last week: beat Leon 43-7. This week: at Santa Fe (1-7), 7:30 p.m.

Glance: The Tornadoes bounced back from a loss to District 5-2A champ Newberry with a romp over Leon. They close with a pair of one-win teams and a chance to work on their offense as it preps for powerful teams like Cocoa or Newberry, with one of those teams the likely opponent in the regional final.

7. (7) Mandarin (6-2, Class 6A)

Last week: beat Fletcher 8-0. This week: at (5) Oakleaf (6-2).

Glance: The Mustangs have shifted from offense-heavy to defense-centric. They struggled to do much of anything against Fletcher on the offensive side of the ball but that defense is still able to lead the way. They’re going to have to be better offensively to beat Oakleaf and win the District 2-6A title.

8. (8) Ponte Vedra (6-2, Class 5A)

Last week: beat Orange Park 35-6. This week: at IMG Academy White (5-2), Thursday, 6 p.m.

Glance: The Sharks can’t win the District 3-5A title anymore but they’re still in line for potentially a seven-win regular season and a home playoff game if things continue like they are. They’ve got tough games ahead with IMG Academy’s White (not the National) team up next followed by a dangerous Creekside in Week 11.

9. (NR) Fleming Island (5-3, Class 5A)

Monday night: beat Parker, 51-24. This week: at Middleburg (6-2).

Glance: The Golden Eagles clinched the District 3-5A championship last week after Beachside demolished Middleburg so they’re safely in the state playoffs. Fleming has losses to Creekside and Oakleaf by a field goal and then 48-39 to Riverside in a game that it led in the fourth quarter. No reason that the Golden Eagles shouldn’t finish 7-3.

10. (NR) Flagler Palm Coast (6-1, Class 7A)

Monday night: beat Yulee, 35-24. This week: vs. Spruce Creek (5-2).

Glance: The Bulldogs make their Super 6 debut, edging Baker County and Beachside this week. They need a win this week and some help to get back into the District 2-7A race. FPC’s schedule has been lean but they’re ranked fourth in Region 1-7A and trending towards a playoff spot barring an implosion.
