News4JAGs picks: It’s a split decision against the Packers

The News4JAX sports staff will offer its predictions on Jaguars games this season on Fridays. (News4JAX)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jaguars season is back and our News4JAX sports staff is back with its predictions as well. Each week, we’ll unveil our predictions for the week’s game. Jacksonville (2-5) got a win in Week 7 against the Patriots in London. Can the Jaguars continue that momentum when they host the Packers (5-2) on Sunday (1 p.m.) at EverBank Stadium?

Well, the Jaguars are back at home and have won two out of their last three games. While this is all good, I am not sure it is enough to get me to pick them to win over the Packers. Don’t get me wrong, I think Jacksonville has a chance, but I am just not that confident right now to go that far. If they were to pull it off, it would have to be a lot like the Patriots game, they would need to get the run game going early with Tank Bigsby and would also likely need to get a score from special teams or defense. Also, Trevor Lawrence needs to continue playing the way he has been these last couple of weeks. Basically, everything would need to go right for the Jaguars to come out on top. And in football, it usually doesn’t go that way. — Packers 27, Jaguars 20.

Season record: 3-4.

I’ve gone back and forth on this game all week. Jacksonville has beaten a 39-year-old backup quarterback and then the worst team in the NFL (Patriots). Then why am I picking the Jaguars? I shouldn’t. But I think Jacksonville knows it has to play near-perfect football from here on out to have any shot of a playoff opportunity. They had that same mindset in 2022, and sat virtually at the same point as they do now. — Jaguars 24, Packers 23.

Season record: 4-3.

I’m leading in the predictions so pay attention. The Jaguars need this game but I can’t see picking Jacksonville when it has been too inconsistent this year. — Packers 24, Jaguars 17.

Season record: 2-5.

Full disclosure. I am a Packers stockholder so that basically makes me a team owner. Green Bay is 5-2 and has been rolling. Jordan Love is on a streak two or more touchdowns in 16 games. It definitely doesn’t seem to stack in the Jags favor on paper but I have learned not to think with logic but to think what is the most “Jaguars” thing that could happen? This week that is for them to win this game. Trevor Lawrence is starting to get hot and when he is feeling it the Jags are a dangerous team. Under Doug Pederson, Jacksonville is 2-0 in the game after returning from London. Why? I don’t know, but if it works it works. If there is a last gasp of hope for this season, here it is. Jags get a W on Sunday and people will start to believe again. — Jaguars 35, Packers 27.
