High school football ‘24: Friday’s scoreboard and looking ahead to Week 11

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On a wild Week 10 of high school football in the area, the district championships are largely sewn up.

Top-ranked Raines, No. 2 Nease and seventh-ranked Mandarin all wrapped up district championships on an action-packed Friday night. The Vikings pounded Yulee 47-0 to stay on track for their first unbeaten regular season since 1997.

The Panthers (7-0) crushed Tocoi Creek 48-15 and won the district championship after Gainesville Buchholz edged Bartram Trail in OT, 38-37. Nease is on track for its first unbeaten regular season since 2006. The Mustangs used another strong defensive outing to beat No. 5 Oakleaf 18-7 and clinch a district crown of its own.

Also wrapping up district championships in Week 10 were Creekside, which sent Sandalwood to its 19th consecutive loss in a 35-7 romp. The Knights (5-4) have been a normal playoff team but the district title is the first in program history.

Unbeatens are down to two

Interlachen hammered St. Joseph 42-18 to end the perfect regular season of the Flashes (8-1). That leaves just two local teams still perfect through 10 weeks, Raines (8-0) and Nease (7-0).

Milestone for St. Aug coach

With a 63-7 blowout of Ridgeview on Friday night, St. Augustine head coach Brian Braddock celebrated a milestone with win No. 100. Braddock, in his ninth season with the Yellow Jackets, is 77-26 at his alma mater. He went 23-10 in three seasons at Mandarin, including a 12-1 season in 2015 with the Mustangs that was the last unbeaten regular season turned in by a Gateway Conference program.

Passing record falls

Zarephath Academy quarterback Jordan Durham set a Florida state record on Friday night during a 60-28 win over Tallahassee North Florida Christian. Durham went 28 of 36 for 573 yards and eight touchdowns in the romp. Durham has 4,695 yards and 51 touchdown passes in 11 games, a number that surpassed the previous single-season mark of Quentin Williams of Tampa Jefferson. Williams passed for 4,451 yards in 2012.
