Rank, previous, School, Record, Classification
1. (1) Raines (9-0, Class 3A)
Last week: beat Atlantic Coast, 48-0. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The Vikings are unbeaten for the first time in the regular season since their first state championship season in 1997. They’re the No. 1 seed in Region 1-3A and got a huge boost this week when state title favorite and 4A No. 1-ranked Miami Central had to forfeit its wins for ineligible players. They’ll host Bay in the playoff opener.
2. (2) Nease (8-0, Class 6A)
Last week: beat Beachside, 42-20. This week: vs. Bartram Trail (4-5), Thursday.
Glance: The Panthers are going for their first unbeaten regular season since 2006 and have a challenging opponent in the Bears. Bartram could very well vault into the playoffs with a win over the Panthers, the state’s No. 1 overall team.
3. (3) St. Augustine (8-1, Class 6A)
Last week beat (6) Mandarin, 38-26. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The Yellow Jackets are a comfortable No. 1 seed in Region 1-4A. It should be either Rickards or Columbia for St. Augustine in the opening round.
4. (4) Bolles (8-1, Class 2A)
Last week: Off. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The Bulldogs have won eight straight games and will start with a No. 3 seed in Region 1-2A and likely host Taylor County in the playoff opener.
5. (5) Bradford (8-1, Class 2A)
Last week: Off, game with NFEI canceled. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The Tornadoes should start the playoffs ranked No. 1 in Region 2-2A which means they’d avoid a potential clash with Cocoa or Newberry until the regional final. They’ll likely have to travel in the first round to face district champ Lake Placid in what should be a running clock game.
6. (6) Mandarin (7-2, Class 6A)
Last week: lost to (3) St. Augustine, 38-26. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The loss to the Yellow Jackets won’t do much for the playoff rankings. Mandarin should be a No. 4 or 5 seed in Region 1-6A and host Oakleaf in the opener.
7. (7) Ponte Vedra (8-2, Class 5A)
Last week: beat Creekside, 35-30. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The Sharks have lost only to Nease and then a late field goal to Fleming Island. They’re virtually a lock at the No. 4 seed in Region 1-5A with a potential first-round game at Fleming Island.
8. (8) Oakleaf (7-3, Class 6A)
Last week: beat Tocoi Creek, 56-7. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The Knights are likely locked into the No. 5 seed with a first-round game at Mandarin. If they slide up to No. 4 they’d still likely travel to Mandarin in the playoff opener.
9. (9) Fleming Island (7-3, Class 5A)
Last week: beat Fort White, 45-0. This week: Regular season complete.
Glance: The Golden Eagles are likely looking at a No. 5 seed and hosting Ponte Vedra in the opening round of the state playoffs. If they stay at No. 6 then Fleming would likely have to travel as a district champ to Lincoln in the first round.
10. (10) Flagler Palm Coast (8-1, Class 7A)
Last week: beat Matanzas, 68-26. This week: vs. DeLand (5-4), Thursday.
Glance: The Bulldogs need to win this week and pull for Spruce Creek to upset Orange City University to potentially win District 2-7A in a tiebreaker. It’s unlikely, but still a possibility.
