JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The hit that knocked Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence from Sunday’s game against the Texans drew quite the reaction from across social media.

Lawrence pulled up to slide but Azeez Al-Shaair went low and drilled a sliding Lawrence. The quarterback’s arms appeared to freeze up as his head slammed into the grass. Jaguars players immediately swarmed Al-Shaair and a melee ensued between the teams that took several minutes to cool down. Al-Shaair was ejected as well as Jacksonville’s Jarrian Jones.

The craziest thing about that Lawrence cheap shot was how unusual it was — nobody has crushed a QB like that in years. Just an immediate brawl. That hit was from like 1982.

This is one of the dirtiest hits I’ve ever seen on a QB…he’s clearly going down. Ejected? Suspension?

John McClain, longtime NFL writer

I’ve been covering the NFL for 48 years and I can’t remember a cheap shot worse than what Al-Shaair did to Lawrence. He’ll be lucky to avoid a suspension.

Chris Nowinski, founding CEO of Concussion Legacy Foundation

Trevor Lawrence suffered a significant traumatic brain injury (#TBI) here. He shows a clear “fencing response”, which means he is knocked out with a #concussion & deeper parts of his brain are malfunctioning. Wishing him the best.

Now this is a dirty hit My god

That’s bull by Azeez Al-Shaair!! You just dive over the QB’s head when they slide. You make sure they go down but you don’t go to the players helmet like that. I 100% agree with an ejection. And 100% there’s supposed to be a fight! Jaguars did the right thing.
