Rank, previous, school, record, classification

1. (2) Jackson (4-0, Class 3A)

Quality wins: Bolles, Creekside, Impact Christian.

Notable: Head coach Byron Shemwell has the Tigers not missing a beat. They’ve got a three-point win over Impact in the opener, but Jackson hasn’t let a team get closer than 16 points in the three games after that. They’ve got three tough games up next with University Christian, Riverside and Tocoi Creek over the next eight days. Jahari Simmons (17 ppg) and David Wilson (16 ppg) are leading the Tigers.

2. (4) Ribault (4-0, Class 4A)

Quality wins: Creekside, Fletcher, Riverside.

Notable: The Trojans are finding their way and doing a good job of it. They’ve stacked three close wins in a row over the Knights, Senators and Generals. heavy, with Kaden Toure is off to a very good start for the Trojans (15.5 ppg), with Jamian Jackson (14.8 ppg) right behind.

3. (1) Providence (3-2, Class 2A)

Quality wins: Bolles, Ponte Vedra.

Notable: The Stallions drop a spot but I can’t ding them too much for the losses, which have come to Gateway Charter and Calvary Christian, teams who are perennial playoff teams and a combined 7-0 to start. Ryan Gornto (14.6 ppg), William Stewart (11.4 ppg) and Colton Nuualiitia (11 ppg) are leading a young Providence squad.

4. (3) Ponte Vedra (4-1, Class 5A)

Quality wins: Riverside, University Christian.

Notable: The Sharks move down just by the numbers. They hung on for a 54-53 win over University Christian on Tuesday night in their most difficult test since a loss to Providence. This is a team that will make some noise come playoff time. Maddox Palmer (14.8 ppg), David Sanchez Barrera (13.6 ppg) and Trace Westercamp (11 ppg) are powering Ponte Vedra.

5. (NR) Tocoi Creek (5-0, Class 6A)

Quality wins: Bishop Kenny, Fleming Island, Raines.

Notable: Great start for the Toros. They’ve handed Fleming its lone defeat of the season and they clipped a quality BK team (55-52) in double OT. Tocoi Creek also handled previous No. 5 Raines (72-49).

6. (6) Impact Christian (2-2, Class 1A)

Quality wins: Creekside, San Jose Prep.

Notable: Head coach Ben Jones will schedule big programs all day, which is why I can’t fault a 72-63 loss to Georgia Class 6A school Newton (5-3). The other defeat came in the opener to No. 1 Jackson. Ronald Clark (18.5 ppg) and Jeremiah Jones (15.3 ppg) have been the big players early for the Lions. Impact

Dropped out

Raines (1-4, Class 3A)
