JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hollywood loves to make reboots. The Jags season has been the reboot that has been done to death. It is the same thing over and over and over and over. A late touchdown that cost Jacksonville the game, like it did in Sunday’s 32-25 loss to the Jets. Blown coverage that gives up a big play. And it ends in a close loss after a close loss. It’s the same song and dance each week.
It’s wild how stuff just doesn’t change. It sounds like a broken record and everyone is tired of hearing it. The players are tired of talking about it. And I’m tired of trying to explain it.

Losses at this point in the year push the Jags closer and closer to the changes they need. Shad Khan is more patient than I am and many of you. Or maybe he is playing the long game. I know there are some Jags fans out there who are rooting for losses to secure a high draft pick, and what better way to lock in a high pick than to keep everything the same?
Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke have shown over the last year that they know how to lose a game. The Jags are 4-15 since last December — 4 and 15. They have no answers. I’m not even going to say, “fire everybody.” I have already done that. Everyone knows that is what needs to happen.
Instead, let’s just talk about the things that are more pleasant than watching the Jags. Like getting a tooth pulled. Having a migraine. Waving at someone you thought was waving at you only to realize they were waving at someone behind you. That might be on the same level of pain as watching four quarters of Jaguars football.
And at this point, the injuries are just making it worse. Or maybe they are just getting everyone ready for the harsh reality that could be coming soon. What if the Jaguars move on from Christian Kirk and Evan Engram this offseason? That sounds like a crazy question but is it really that crazy? It would open a ton of salary cap room. Sometimes, change is hard. Everyone is asking for change and everyone wants to be like the Lions, but are you ready for what could come with that? Sometimes, part of change means losing some of the leaders on the team and making some tough choices. Charge is hard and sometimes it means letting go.
