Four Cents: Season comes to a merciful end and the waiting begins for Jaguars

It’s over. It has been a long road, but it is finally over. Sunday’s 26-23 loss to the Colts means that Jacksonville’s season is over with a 4-13 record. Now what? We wait.

Nobody knows what Jaguars owner Shad Khan has planned or is going to do. So, we wait. I’m not good at waiting, so what would I do? I’m so glad you asked.

I’d fire Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke. A U-haul truck is $19.95 to rent. I will Cash App Shad $40 right now so he can move them on out.

I’d go get Will McClay to be the Jaguars next general manager. He has been the man behind the scenes for the Cowboys for years, stacking that roster with talent. He has passed up general manager jobs in the past because he wanted to let his son finish high school. Good news for the Jaguars, his son graduates this year. By the way, McClay got his NFL start with the Jaguars in 2001. So it would be a full-circle moment for him.

The head coach is easy but then again, it’s not. Everyone wants Ben Johnson. If I say any other name, it would be a disappointment. Johnson is the guy and should be the guy. Pair Johnson with Trevor Lawrence and let the Jags offense cook.

Once you get McClay and Johnson in the fold, that’s when the hard decision would start. What do you do about Christian Kirk? He has been the topic of discussion since the trade deadline, when there were rumors about him being on the block. I’d keep him. I’d try and rework his contract, but I’d keep him. The goal still has to be to surround Lawrence with as many weapons as possible. Is Parker Washington a guy who could replace Kirk? Sure, but he needs to show he can be a more consistent option before you just cut the cord.

There are some other moves along the way, but let’s jump to the draft. The Jags have locked up the fifth pick. With any luck, Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will all go before the Jags are on the clock. That leaves just one pick to worry about. If the Jags have any sort of luck, Tetairoa McMillan will still be on the board when the Jags get on the clock. Yes, I want the Jaguars to draft another wide receiver. He is a 6-5 monster. Just think Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr. and McMillan, and then throw in Kirk, Evan Engram, and Travis Etienne. That offense would be so fun to watch. Yeah, the defense would still have problems, but the draft doesn’t end after round one.

That’s what I would do, but Khan didn’t ask me, so now we just sit and we wait.
