Rank, School, Record, Classification
1. Trinity Christian (0-0, Class 2A)
Notable: The Conquerors went 24-7 last year and reached the state semifinals. This team is absolutely stacked to the rim with elite talent. I’m struggling to come up with a roster that I’ve seen locally with talent like this. Juniors RHP Ethan Wheeler, LHP Tyler Ellis and OF Brady Harris are Florida commits. IFs Jordan Martinez and Parker Loew are LSU commits. Righty Aaron Watson (Virginia signee) is ranked the No. 34 prospect in the country in this year’s draft. IF Gage Petrutz (Alabama) is also an SEC commit and Chris Reali (UNF pledge) are both juniors. OF Aiden Arnett (Virginia Tech), RHP Griffin Edenfield (Erskine College), UT Braden McKee (Flagler College) and OF Merrick Beamish (Dyersburg State CC) have all signed.
2. Bolles (2-0, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Ponte Vedra, St. Johns Country Day.
Notable: Great start to the season for the Bulldogs, who have beaten reigning state champ St. Johns and an always tough Ponte Vedra to start. Gabe Gonzalez (Mercer signee) is 4 for 7 to start the season with a homer. Mike Boswell has been at Bolles in either an assistant or head coach role since 2002. He’s won two state titles with the Bulldogs and has 526 career wins.
3. St. Johns Country Day (1-1, Class 1A)
Quality win: Bishop Kenny.
Notable: The defending 1A state champs are going to push to go back and defend that crown. The Spartans bounced back from a loss to Bolles with a 9-1 win over Bishop Kenny. Hunter Rodgers and TJ Sunderhaus have already gone deep twice. Trinity transfer Brayden Harris is a huge addition. He was a first-team All-News4JAX selection last year. There are big voids to fill for Tom Lucas but the Spartans are going to contend for the final four again.
4. Creekside (1-0, Class 7A)
Quality win: Providence.
Notable: The Knights were a regional finalist last year and return some talented arms. Gavin Duprey, Nicholas Romeu, Matthew Bysheim and Michael Bysheim logged 122 innings last season for the Knights. Graduations have taken a bite out of the position players but the Knights have been able to navigate those types of losses before.
5. Bishop Snyder (1-0, Class 2A)
Quality win: Baldwin.
Notable: The big loss is player of the year Aidan King to graduation. The good news for the Cardinals is that the cupboard is hardly bare. Cody Boshell is the big name, a Tennessee commit who homered in the season opener. Jack Perry and Tristan Silver were honorable mention All-News4JAX selections. Snyder’s district is an absolute monster, with Bolles, Episcopal, Providence and Trinity.
6. Clay (1-0, Class 5A)
Quality win: Keystone Heights.
Notable: An 8-6 win over a Keystone team coming off a 20-9 season was a quality start for the Blue Devils. Clay has been one of the most consistent public school teams around. Clay’s last season of fewer than 15 wins (in a non-Covid year) was a 12-11-1 finish in 2010. Merrick Rapoza, Easton McMahan and Cole Carnell are the big names to watch for the Blue Devils.
