Rank, school, record, classification

1. Bartram Trail (2-0, Class 2A)

Quality win: Viera.

Notable: The Bears have won three consecutive state championships and have another (2016) to cement themselves as the premier team in area history. Losing foundational player Ryann Frechette to graduation is huge, but they return All-News4JAX selections Emily Barnette and Esa Brenneman.

2. Episcopal (2-0, Class 1A)

Quality wins: Ponte Vedra, Tocoi Creek.

Notable: The Eagles will push Bartram as the area’s top team. They were a state semifinalist last year before falling to eventual champ Delray Beach American Heritage. They’ve already got a 14-13 win over Ponte Vedra to start. Maeve O’Neil is one of the area’s top players.

3. Ponte Vedra (0-2, Class 2A)

Quality wins: None.

Notable: They lost 14-13 to Episcopal and then 16-6 to reigning state champ Delray American Heritage. The Sharks will push for the upper half of the Super 6, but two tough opponents out of the gate don’t show how good this team can be. Their schedule is wicked tough.

4. Bolles (1-0, Class 1A)

Quality win: St. Augustine.

Notable: A solid 13-6 win over St. Augustine to open the season. The Bulldogs are coming off a 10-9 season and a trip to the state playoffs.

5. Tocoi Creek (1-1, Class 2A)

Quality win: Menendez.

Notable: Scoring machine Ashley Cotter is back and that energy will give the Toros a chance in any game. She’s coming off a 112-goal season and will surpass 200 career scores rapidly at her blistering pace.

6. St. Augustine (0-1, Class 1A)

Quality wins: None.

Notable: The Yellow Jackets are elbowing their win in for a seat at the crowded girls lacrosse table in St. Johns County. They’ve got a tough schedule in the first month, with games against Episcopal, Oak Hall and Bartram Trail on deck.

Others

Creekside (0-0, Class 2A); Fleming Island (1-1, Class 1A); Menendez (1-1, Class 1A); Nease (0-2, Class 2A).
