1. (1) Clay (2-0, Class 2A)

Quality win: Middleburg.

Notable: The Blue Devils opened their season with a 31-0 romp over Dunnellon and then followed that with an 18-6 win over a solid Middleburg team on Tuesday night. Next up for Clay is Columbia on Friday.

2. (6) Bradford (2-0, Class 1A)

Quality win: None.

Notable: A 51-0 romp over KIPP Bold City and an 18-12 win over Columbia headline Bradford’s 2-0 start. The Tornadoes won’t start facing the more challenging teams until next month. I didn’t expect to vault Bradford this high, but every team in front of it besides Clay has question marks in Week 2.

3. (NR) Ponte Vedra (1-0, Class 3A)

Quality win: Sandalwood.

Notable: The first-year Sharks beat a solid Sandalwood (19-7) in their opener, a Sandalwood team that beat reigning Gateway champ White (13-6).

4. (4) Fleming Island (1-1, Class 3A)

Quality win: None.

Notable: The Golden Eagles bounced back from a loss to New Smyrna Beach (27-6) with a comfortable win over Bartram Trail (20-6).

5. (2) White (2-1, Class 2A)

Notable: The Commanders have wins over Tocoi Creek and Eagle’s View, but lost 13-6 to Sandalwood since our last Super 6.

T6. (5) Paxon (1-1, Class 2A)

Quality win: None.

Notable: The Golden Eagles lost 25-0 to Alonso and then bounced back big with a 39-0 rout of Wolfson. That Alonso loss isn’t as bad as it looks on the surface. Alonso went 18-1 last year and didn’t lose until the regional finals.

T6. (NR) Sandalwood (1-1, Class 4A)

Quality win: White.

Notable: The Saints went 8-5 last year and started strong this year with a 13-6 win over previous No. 2 White. The loss is a 19-7 game to Ponte Vedra.

Dropped out

Fletcher (1-1, Class 3A).
