University Christian’s quest for a spot in the boys basketball state championship game ran into problems in the second half.
Santa Fe Catholic used a third-quarter burst to turn a close game into a romp in a 71-50 win over UC in the Class 1A state semifinals on Thursday morning. The Christians were making their first trip to the state semifinals since 2019 and were in a battle with the Hawks for a half.

Santa Fe Catholic jumped out UC early with a 21-10 burst in the first quarter before UC caught back up. The Christians pulled within 24-22 at half before the disastrous third quarter. Santa Fe Catholic blitzed UC from the get go, outscoring the Christians 26-7 and never looking back.
The Christians entered this season after a heartbreaking loss in last year’s regional final. UC shook off a slow start this year and entered the state semifinals on a tear, winners of 13 straight.
