Girls high school basketball playoffs ‘25: Providence girls storm into title game

The Providence girls basketball team took care of business in the state semifinals and are headed for their second state championship game.

The Stallions led wire to wire and coasted to a 61-44 win over Holy Trinity Episcopal in the Class 2A semis on Thursday morning at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland. Providence will face either Evangelical Christian or Miami Country Day in the state championship game on Saturday at 1 p.m. Each of Providence’s three previous trips to Lakeland have ended with a loss to MCD, including a visit to the state championship game in 2017.

Providence had issue with Holy Trinity Episcopal, pulling away with a 24-12 run in the second quarter and coasting. Providence led by as many as 22 in the early third quarter. The Stallions shot 56.1% from the field and 46.7% from the 3-point arc in a ruthless display of efficiency. Providence’s defense smothered Holy Trinity. It shot just 25.4% from the field.

Kennedy Loux had 18 points for the Stallions, followed by Janie Boyd (13), Kasey Davey (12) and Julianna Baskin (10).
