Tocoi Creek clawed back from a big deficit but couldn’t get over the hump in its girls basketball state semifinals debut on Thursday.
Bloomingdale built a big lead early and fended off the Toros 50-39 in the Class 6A state semis at the RP Funding Center. Tocoi Creek had never reached the state playoffs before this season, but ripped off three impressive playoff wins as the No. 1 seed in its region to reach the final four.

The Toros found themselves down by a bundle right out of the gate, falling into a 20-6 deficit in the first quarter after a woeful shooting performance (1 for 11) that never really picked back up. Bloomingdale led by as many as 20 in the game Tocoi Creek made a push late. An Audrey Beyer 3-pointer with 1 minute, 22 seconds left brought the Toros to within 47-39 but that’s as close as they’d get.
Beyer had one of her best games of the season with 28 points, but no other Tocoi Creek player had more than five points as the Toros shot just 8 of 38 from the field.
