1. (1) Clay (7-0, Class 2A)
Quality win: Dunnellon.
Notable: The Blue Devils topped Ridgeview (21-0) and Oakleaf (19-0) since our last Super 6 before spring break. Their season-opening win over Dunnellon is their only one against a team with a winning record. They’ve outscored their opponents by a combined 196-6. They have three games left, and only one is against a team with more than two wins (6-1 Fleming Island). The Blue Devils have looked the part but it’s going to be difficult to see how good they are until the playoffs. The schedule has been one of the weakest around.
2. (2) Bradford (6-0, Class 1A)
Quality win: Suwannee.
Notable: The Tornadoes haven’t played since a 26-0 win over Eagle’s View on March 11. Much like Clay, the schedule has been very, very light. A 34-0 win over Suwannee is the only victory against a team over .500. The schedule does increase on the back side, with Buchholz (April 1), Florida High (April 8) and White (April 9) are tough. If they win out, the Tornadoes will jump Clay due to strength of schedule.
3. (3) Ponte Vedra (10-1, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Davenport, Destin, Fletcher, Sandalwood, Tocoi Creek, Wakulla.
Notable: The first-year Sharks have a strong argument for the top two. They’ve won nine straight after a 21-20 loss to a quality Stanton. Their body of work is stout. QB Izzy Murray has 23 TD passes, 10 of those to Julia Conroy. That duo star on defense, too, with 16 combined picks.
4. (4) Fleming Island (6-1, Class 3A)
Quality win: Baldwin, Mandarin, Paxon.
Notable: The Golden Eagles lost their season opener and haven’t lost since. They added wins over Middleburg and Paxon since our last Super 6, and have White (Thursday) and Paxon (April 1) up next. Emily Poucher and Audrey Ellis have combined to catch nine TD passes from Devyn Dudones.
5. (6) Fletcher (7-2, Class 3A)
Quality wins: Paxon, Sandalwood, White
Notable: The Senators beat Raines and White since our last Super 6, the latter a 21-0 blowout of the Commanders. They’ve got Atlantic Coast on Wednesday before the Gateway Conference tournament.
6. (NR) Mandarin (7-2, Class 4A)
Quality wins: Baldwin, Keystone Heights.
Notable: Tough decision on this spot. The Mustangs lost a close game to Fleming Island earlier this month, which is their only loss to a local team. Their other defeat is to a powerful 10-1 Tampa Alonso. A lot of teams clustered together with the Mustangs, including White, Sandalwood, Stanton and Yulee. Mandarin and 8-1 Yulee meet on Wednesday night.
Dropped out
White (6-2, Class 2A).
Others
Bartram Trail (6-4, Class 3A); Paxon (4-3, Class 2A); Sandalwood (5-3, Class 4A); Stanton (6-3, Class 2A); Suwannee (7-5, Class 1A); White (6-2, Class 2A); Yulee (8-1, Class 2A).
