1. (1) Ponte Vedra (13-3, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Allatoona (Ga.), Bartram Trail, Creekside, Episcopal, Fletcher, Hayes (Ohio), Jupiter, Nease, Oak Hall, Pensacola Catholic, St. Augustine, Starr’s Mill (Ga.), Winter Park.
Notable: The Sharks have won four consecutive games entering the District 3-2A tournament, the latest a 13-4 rout of a very good Gainesville Oak Hall team. The Sharks will face Bartram Trail or Beachside on Thursday in the semis and either Nease or Creekside in the championship on April 16. Ponte Vedra is unquestionably the area’s best state title contender.
2. (2) Episcopal (15-3, Class 1A)
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Benedictine (Ga.), Buchholz, Fletcher, Menendez, Niceville, Savannah Country Day (Ga.), South Walton, St. Augustine, Trinity Catholic.
Notable: The Eagles beat Bartram Trail handily (14-1) since our last Super 6. They’re back in action on April 15 in the District 2-1A semifinals against either Paxon or Stanton. I don’t see a scenario where the Eagles don’t emerge from here with a district title. Robert Adams leads the Eagles in scoring with 54 goals followed by Tre Carter (50 goals), Jackson Soud (49 goals) and Dylan Hauser (46 goals).
3. (3) Bolles (13-5, Class 1A)
Quality wins: Bishop Verot, Fleming Island, Fletcher, Hayes (Tenn.), Lake Highland Prep, Montverde, Nease, South Walton, Timber Creek, Trinity Catholic.
Notable: The Bulldogs are struggling, losing three straight, albeit against quality competition. They dropped games to Oceanside Collegiate, Winter Park and Lake Mary, teams who are a combined 35-6. Not bad losses but Bolles needs to pick things up as the playoffs arrive. They’re seeded No. 1 in the District 3-1A tournament and should roll through there unchallenged.
4. (4) Nease (11-5, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Buchholz, Chiles, Creekside, Pope (Ga.), South Walton, St. Augustine, Trinity Catholic.
Notable: Tough call here this week. Nease went 2-1 since our last Super 6, losing to Fletcher (11-9) and then beating Beachside (22-1) and St. Augustine (13-7). But they have a head-to-head win over Creekside so I left them here. They collide with the Knights in the District 3-2A semifinals on Thursday.
4. (5) Creekside (12-5, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Fletcher, Starr’s Mill (Ga.), St. Augustine, Tocoi Creek.
Notable: The Knights have won five straight since a 9-8 loss to Nease. They’ve got a tough path in the District 3-2A tournament, opening up with Nease on Thursday. A win there and they’ll likely collide with Ponte Vedra in the April 16 district final.
6. (6) Fletcher (11-6, Class 2A)
Quality wins: Bartram Trail, Fleming Island, Nease, St. Augustine.
Notable: The Senators went 1-1 since our last Super 6, beating previous No. 4 Nease (11-9) and then losing to No. 4 Creekside (13-8). They open as the No. 1 seed in the District 2-2A tournament and should waltz into the final against either Fleming Island or Mandarin on April 17. Mathew Weidle (36 goals), Bryden Speeg (34 goals) and Nathan Phillips (29 goals) lead Fletcher in scoring.
Others
Bartram Trail (8-7, Class 2A); Providence (10-7, Class 1A); St. Augustine (10-8, Class 1A); Tocoi Creek (8-6, Class 2A).
