The Jackson boys had an excellent showing in the Class 2A state track and field meet on Friday, with hurdler Nieko Garnes winning one individual event and helping out on the champ 4x400 relay team.
Garnes and the Tigers did enough for a third-place finish with 39 points, ahead of Raines and Montverde in fourth (38) during the first of two days of state action at UNF’s Hodges Stadium.

On the girls side, Bolles finished third (39) and Jackson (35) was fourth in the team standings.
Garnes, one of the top athletes in the country, brought home a state title in the 400 hurdles in 53.17. Parker Adams grabbed the top spot in the 3200 (9:14.29)
On the boys side, area athletes shined in the field events, with Raines star King Massey winning the shot put (54 feet, 5.25 inches) and Fernandina Beach’s Luke Twardy taking the javelin (188-5).
For the girls, Bolles pole vaulter Sienna Starks won with a clearance of 11 feet, 9.75 inches.
