UNF Ospreys softball team makes program history winning first NCAA Regional game

For the first time ever, the UNF Ospreys softball team not only competed in an NCAA Regional game, but the team won! UNF beat Virginia 2-1 Friday at the Columbia Regional in South Carolina. (ESPN+)

Columbia, SC. – For the first time ever, the UNF Ospreys softball team not only competed in an NCAA Regional game, but the team won! UNF beat Virginia 2-1 Friday at the Columbia Regional in South Carolina.

The Cavaliers scored once in the bottom of the second, but then the game became a pitcher’s duel. That is until the top of the sixth when Chloe Culp singled to left field. Lauren Brock scored to tie the game, 1-1.

Kirsten Caravaca then stepped up to the plate and doubled down the left field line. Lauren Bevis scored the go-ahead run.

It all came down to UNF’s Allison Benning on the mound to close out the game in the bottom of the seventh. That is exactly what the ASUN Conference Player and Pitcher of the Year did. The Ospreys win their first NCAA Tournament game in program history.

UNF will advance to play the winner of South Carolina and Elon Saturday at 1 p.m.
