Questions ranged from how Vic spends his free time to what he thinks about the civil unrest that has taken hold of Jacksonville. In case you missed it, we’ve posted the recap below:
Q) Vic, who cuts your hair?
A) His name is Clyde. He actually gave me my first haircut ever as a child and still cuts it 30-plus years later. Great guy and a long-time family friend. Not to mention, it’s naturally curly so a big task with (Florida’s) humidity. I get it cut every three weeks.
Q) What’s your favorite restaurant?
A) I can’t say there’s one. Tell me your favorite types of food and I’ll tailor it to you. I definitely love the down-home mom-and-pop shops. … I love tacos from TacoLu and Flying Iguana. Food trucks have great tacos too. I love thai from Simply Tasty Thai in Mayport. Soul food from Southern Charm by Chef Art. Brunch – Jax Beach Brunch Haus is amazing and the owner is an opera singer who will serenade you.
Q) Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
A) I’m not sure where I’ll be in five or 10 years because times are changing so fast. I want to be involved, even more so than today, and make a difference! That’s why I love working for N4J. We are in the community and pushing to make it better, safer, friendlier.
Q) What’s your favorite color?
A) Aqua blue and green… tropical colors for sure!
Q) What is your ideal vacation like?
A) Anywhere with my family! But I like active vacays… boats, swimming, fishing, no bus rides!
Q) What do you do for fun?
A) I DJ! Music is big for me and my family. Watersports are fun. Boating. Biking. Anything outdoors. I love traveling, even though corona has put a halt on that.
Q) What would you say to those interested in journalism careers?
A) I’d say adapt to the times. Do it for the people, the greater good, have thick skin. You have to be passionate and care about people to do this job. Otherwise, you’ll burn out. I never wanted to be a face on TV. I wanted to get details. I was nosy. Also be masters of social media and technology. That’s what we need.
Q) What made you go into the news business?
A) Curiosity. Adrenaline. Community impact.
Q) What is your take on the current situation in our city and the rest of the country?
A) Heartbreaking and empowering at the same time. Great to see change for good and activism. Sad to hear about all the travesties in the past. But I feel people care and are more aware of others than ever (in my lifetime).
Q) How do you personally feel about this whole coronavirus thing?
A) It’s real. I have friends with it. It’s dangerous. It’s not the end of the world. It’s something we can come together to fight. And that’s why we need to be responsible. But it’s not going away. And we have to learn how to live successfully without increasing our risk.
Q) DJ huh? What are some of your favorite songs? Can you dance?
A) I’ve been DJing for almost 20 years. I love all music. Classic, rock, country, hip hop, latin. I love DJing latin music. Dancing…meh…I’m trying.
Q) What did you do last night?
A) I ran the beach, did laundry and cooked dinner. Then watched Netflix and returned emails.
Q) Hey Vic! Who are some of your favorite music talents to follow in Jacksonville?
A) Great question! I love Honey Hounds, The Band Be Easy, Samuel Sanders, Barrett Jockers, 4Play, Split Tone, The Willow Sister. So many great ones. And (I) grew up on Lynyrd Skynyrd, Yellowcard, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
Q) Who has had the biggest impact on you?
A) My parents. They’re the best. Great family and friends keeping me in check.
