Grandma Edna was born in Georgia on Feb. 1, 1921. She moved to Florida and has been a resident of Jacksonville for more than 60 years. “We are so thankful to have her here to celebrate her 100th birthday!”Grandma Edna has three children, two of which are still living. The family bought a cut-out of Grandma Edna, balloons and a tiara to celebrate.

As of Friday, a total of 707,750 confirmed cases had been reported by the state Department of Public Health. The agency on Friday reported 162 additional confirmed deaths related to COVID-19, including two in Pierce County, bringing the state’s total to 11,670 confirmed deaths since the start of the pandemic. (Note: There are variations in the day-to-day data reported by the Georgia Department of Public Health. At times, cases and deaths are removed from the overall running total reported by the Department of Public Health.)

Rosalind Thomas, her daughter, shared stories about her life with News4Jax Social Media Producer Carianne Luter. She attended local public schools, graduating from Stanton Senior High School, class of 1937. Catherine went on to become a renowned and respected educator with Duval County Public Schools for 36 years, retiring in 1979. Throughout her life music has remained a constant, she loves to sing and dance (move with the music).
