The 2021 GV80, made by the Hyundai luxury brand, is likely to have a newer version of event data recorders nicknamed “black boxes” after more sophisticated recorders in airplanes. AdUSA TODAY first reported the search warrant, noting that deputies did not seek one for samples of Woods' blood. Villanueva did not specifically say Wednesday that investigators had not sought a search warrant for blood samples.

Portigliatti said things like whether Tiger turned his wheel abruptly before the crash could be critical.

The California Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation to determine whether the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department has engaged in a pattern or practice of unconstitutional policing, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra announced Friday, Jan. 22, 2021. While Becerra would not identify any specific incidents, the attorney general urged Los Angeles County residents to report potential abuses to his office. Villanueva pledged transparency with the state and said his department regularly requests for the Department of Justice to monitor its investigations. The sheriff's department was previously under federal investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. In September, the Los Angeles Times reported that a congressional subcommittee had asked the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate allegations of systemic abuse by “criminal gangs” of deputies within the department.

LOS ANGELES – Authorities searched Sunday for a gunman who shot and critically wounded two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies who were sitting in their squad car — an apparent ambush that drew an angry response from the president. The deputies were shot while sitting in their patrol car at a Metro rail station and were able to radio for help, the sheriff said. The department tweeted video of the shooting that shows a person open fire through the passenger-side window of the patrol car. “People’s lives are at stake when ambulances can’t get through.”A radio reporter who was near the protest scene was taken into custody. Protesters have railed against the LA Sheriff’s Department for weeks over recent shootings by deputies, including the killing of a man on a bicycle last month.

COMPTON, Calif. – Two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were shot multiple times Saturday, apparently in an ambush without provocation, while sitting in their patrol car at a Metro rail station. Sheriff Alex Villanueva said in a late-night news conference that the 31-year-old female deputy and 24-year-old male deputy both underwent surgery Saturday evening. Kent Wegener said officers were blanketing the area in search of a suspect seen on video opening fire with a pistol. The department shared video of the incident in a Twitter post that shows a person open fire through the passenger-side window of the patrol car. “The gunman walked up on the deputies and opened fire without warning or provocation,” a department statement said.

That determination outraged Fullers family, who said authorities were too quick to dismiss the possibility of a crime. Following Fullers death, more than 1,000 people attended a peaceful protest and memorial around the tree where his body was found. The sheriff acknowledged the outcry that transpired after Fullers death and called for county officials to fund more mental health initiatives and housing. A week after Fullers death, his half-brother, Terron J. Boone, was fatally shot by Los Angeles County sheriffs deputies. Authorities said Thursday that detectives do not believe Boones case is related to Fullers death.

The body of Robert Fuller was discovered last week at a park near City Hall. They are also seeking to meet with Fuller's family, authorities said. The state Senate began its session Monday with a moment of silence for Fuller and Malcolm Harsh. Many carried signs that read, Justice for Robert Fuller. Meanwhile, an online petition demanding an investigation collected more than 200,000 signatures. Fullers death came amid nationwide protests over the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced the suspect in the Saugus High School shooting is in custody. School district spokesman Dave Caldwell said all campus lockdowns in the district have been lifted except for Saugus High. The department said a male suspect in black clothing was seen at the location. "If you live in neighborhoods anywhere near Saugus High, PLEASE LOCK DOORS and stay inside. Saugus High School and other schools in the area were locked down.

CNN(CNN) - A California deputy who lied about getting shot and humiliated his department is "no longer employed," Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said Wednesday. Deputy Angel Reinosa, 21, claimed he was shot while walking to his personal car outside a sheriff's station on August 21. Reinosa later admitted he fabricated the whole story, but did not provide a motive, sheriff's department Capt. The sheriff said he took "swift administrative action" and that Reinosa "is no longer employed." A criminal investigation is ongoing, the sheriff's department said.
