A corrections sergeant at the Baker County Detention Center was fired and arrested Tuesday after an investigation revealed he hit an inmate without reason, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.

A Florida congressman is calling for the closure of the Baker County Detention Center in Macclenny after a whistleblower report and a complaint alleging civil rights violations at the facility.

Deputies said all the suspects are charged with crimes related to the illegal sale or trafficking of methamphetamine.
