Read full article: Macclenny 2020 Christmas Parade canceled over COVID-19 concernsMACCLENNY, Fla. – City Manager Phil Rhoden announced Tuesday that Macclenny’s popular annual Christmas Parade would not be taking place this December because of concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. “You cannot control the number of people there and you cannot control social distancing,” Rhoden told the commissioners. “If we do have the parade, half the people are going to be mad, and we have put people at risk,” Rhoden explained. “We just don’t see any way to do it and do it safely and feel comfortable in doing that,” Rhoden said. He suggested that if the pandemic gets under control by spring they could hold a new event to celebrate the community.

The first Florida high school football games kicked-off Friday night and in the struggle to curb the spread of COVID-19, many area schools appeared to be playing weak defense, according to a local pediatrician. Dr. Jeffrey Goldhagen, Chief of Community and Societal Pediatrics at UF Health, described the Baker County High School game against the visiting Bradford High School as a super spreader event.Those individuals are at higher risk for spreading the disease, both within Baker county and outside Baker County, Goldhagen said. MARY, Fla. - Baker Countys sheriff is showing his displeasure after a judge dropped charges against a 15-year-old accused of threatening a mass shooting at Baker County High School. However, last week a circuit judge in Gainesville dropped all the charges against the will of prosecutors. We were able to get this young man, get him and interview him, Rhoden told News4Jax. Community members told News4Jax they were outraged the boy was let go without criminal charges. A judicial assistant for Judge Walker told News4Jax Wednesday that the judge was not able to comment on the case.
