State Attorney Melissa Nelson, local sheriffs and other Northeast Florida law enforcement leaders will hold a news conference Thursday to discuss the potentially deadly consequences of the “Senior Assassin” game being played by high school seniors.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said one of their agents shot a Bishop Kenny High School student in the arm on Wednesday while the student was playing a game of “Senior Assassin” in Nassau County.

Two Bishop Kenny students are among the 28 selected nationwide to attend the U.S. Navy Summer Flight Academy.

Fleming Island High School renamed its football stadium Friday night for former Athletic Director Randy Warren.

Brad Miller is captain of the football team at Bishop Kenny School. He is a member of the Football Leadership Council, Student Government, National Honor Society and also the Math, History and English National Honor Societies.

Christian Yousefzadeh is on the football and track teams at Creekside High School. He has been in advance, honors, or AP classes since middle school.

Clay Tucker is a member of the National Honor Society at Bishop Kenny High School and has taken five AP classes along with many honors classes. He volunteers at Assumption School with sports activates and with a charity golf tournament. Clay currently has 4.2 GPA.

A former inaugural poet, Richard Blanco, served as judge for the contest finalists. Applicants for the Inaugural Poem Project were urged to submit work that reflects “on the country’s challenges, strengths, and hope for its future,” according to the guidelines. We're looking for that balance of truth and hope.”Knight said she was particularly honored because of who chose her poem. “Knowing that the contest was judged by Richard Blanco, such an accomplished poet, whose inaugural poem creates such a beautiful image of our country,” Knight said. Amanda Gorman, the country’s first Youth Poet Laureate, will read her own inaugural poem during Wednesday’s ceremony.

Chloe Shaw is a senior on the soccer team and is class vice president at Bishop Kenny High School. She is a member of the Spanish Honor Society, the History Honor Society and is a volunteer with Camp I Am Special and TOPS Soccer, helping children with special needs learn the game of soccer. Chloe currently has a 4.1 GPA. Chloe was also this year’s homecoming queen.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of St. Augustine on Thursday announced schools would begin the new school year on August 19, not August 10 as was previously planned. The schools affected include Bishop John Snyder High School, Bishop Kenny High School and St. Joseph Academy in St. Augustine, among others. The collection of schools is the latest in the area to postpone start dates due to COVID-19. Superintendent Decon Scott Conway said the schools are waiting for the delivery of sanitizing products, and instructional devices to upgrade the technology of the schools. We have had a few students test positive during our summer athletic workouts at the high school level, and we communicated with all parents and guardians regarding the positive tests.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Bishop Kenny High School, a private Catholic high school in Jacksonville, plans to require all students and teachers to wear masks when social distancing isn’t possible, according to a plan released by the school Friday. The Bolles School, another large private school in Jacksonville, said Monday it is working on a reopening plan and hopes to release it sometime this week. Episcopal School of Jacksonville sent out an updated version of its reopening plan on Wednesday. Parents and guardians will be asked to monitor their student’s temperature daily before arriving on campus. Classroom desks will be placed in a way to maximize social distancing.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Students and alumni of color are posting about their experiences with racism at three elite private schools in the Jacksonville area. Students, faculty and alumni are posting their stories anonymously under Instagram accounts labeled BlackatBolles, BlackatBishopKenny and BlackatEpiscopal. The principal of Bishop Kenny High School said he’s disheartened, but he’s listening. Moderators for the account Black at Bolles said they have received more than 250 responses from black students, alumni, faculty and other students of color who say they were victims of racism while attending the school. “The school does not do enough to educate students and faculty on micro-aggressions and diversity,” the Bishop Kenny moderator said.
