Thousands of high school athletes from across the country are in Jacksonville to take part in this weekend’s Bob Hayes Invitational track and field meet.

James Day, a longtime coach at Raines and one of the founders of the prestigious Bob Hayes Invitational track and field meet, died unexpectedly on Saturday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The pandemic wiped out the Bob Hayes Invitational track and field meet last year, but it’s racing back to the track on Saturday. “This is really a community track meet. They come from their homes and they help to develop this track meet. The middle school track meet is held Friday. If you see the signs a little bit around the track, the city is highly involved in this, highly involved.
