St. Johns County officials issued mandatory evacuations in zones A, B and F Tuesday ahead of Hurricane Milton.

A man who was on the Matanzas River in St. Augustine Thursday night and witnessed what proved to be a deadly boat crash shared his harrowing account with News4JAX.

Commissioners will get an update at 5 p.m. Monday on the plans to replace the Seawall along A1A in downtown St. Augustine.

A1A Ale Works, located on King Street in a prominent spot right next to the Bridge of Lions, said on social media it plans to close on May 26.

The Florida Department of Transportation met with St. Augustine residents to give them the chance to learn more about an $8.2 million proposal to improve a busy section of a downtown roadway.

Work is underway in an attempt to stop or slow flooding that is common near the Bridge of Lions in downtown St. Augustine.

Those living in St. Augustine and the Davis Shores neighborhood, both of which have experienced catastrophic flooding, are now bracing for potential impacts from Nicole.

Downtown St. Augustine was feeling the full force of Tropical Storm Ian on Thursday afternoon as water breached the seawall and rushed into the historic city.

A sailboat that broke free from its mooring and was adrift in the Matanzas River near downtown St. Augustine was able to be secured Thursday morning but was still in danger of breaching the sea wall as the city flooded.

Protests continued Saturday in response to the Supreme Court’s ruling that overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision.

This past weekend’s nor’easter brought high tides, flooding, and strong winds to the first coast.

As a nor’easter continued to pummel the coastlines of Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia on Saturday morning, the major king tide flooding in the St. Augustine area forced closures of several roads and shut down the Bridge of Lions for four hours.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – Hundreds of bees had to be removed from the Bridge of Lions on Wednesday. Backyard Beekeepers called “Bee The Light” posted the gentle process of removing and relocating the insects. The beekeepers said there were less than 300 bees in the hive so the chances of them surviving on their own were slim. These bees will be mixed in with other hives and closely monitored to ensure their survival. Pollinators, most often honey bees, are responsible for one in every three bites of food we take, and increase our nation’s crop values each year by more than $15 billion.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – One of the marble lions on the Bridge of Lions in St Augustine is getting some repairs on Tuesday. The lion on the north side of the bridge on the bayfront is showing several cracks in its tail. There is a sign warning against climbing on the statues, but that hasn’t stopped the practice. The two lion statues, named “Firm” and “Faithful,” were installed on the bridge in 1927. They were put in storage while the bridge was rebuilt in 2010.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - A motorcyclist was killed Monday in an overnight crash on the Bridge of Lions. Officers with the St. Augustine Police Department said someone called around 2:23 a.m. after hearing a loud crash near the bridge. When officers arrived, they found two people had been thrown from a motorcycle on the east end of the bridge. The driver, according to police, was taken to Flagler Hospital where he later died. The passenger on the motorcycle was listed in stable condition at Flagler Hospital.

The St. Augustine Police Department has a traffic plan to move vehicles safely and as quickly as possible out of the downtown area following the show.
