Glynn Environmental Coalition, an environmental advocacy group, told the Brunswick News that citizens deserve an answer, and the GEC hopes to be able to provide one if the EPD can’t. Georgia’s EPD has received dozens of odor complaints throughout Glynn County since early December. AdThe GEC said it has launched a separate investigation into the source of the smell -- one that parallels the state’s investigation. Executive Director Rachael Thompson said the group will be looking into dew point as well as odor complaints and weather data, the Brunswick News reported.

Since the Park Service dock was destroyed, tourists and park workers have been using a city dock, forcing detours for tourists. National Park Service spokesperson Jill Hamilton-Anderson says completion of the St. Marys dock is scheduled next month. After that, crews will shift to Cumberland Island to repair two docks there. The city plans to expand its municipal dock once the Cumberland ferry moves back to the Park Service Dock, adding 42 to 44 new boat slips.

The U.S. Coast Guard confirms that nine people directly involved with the removal operations of the cargo ship Golden Ray laying on its side in the St. Simons Sound have tested positive for COVID-19. Chief Petty Officer John Miller with the U.S. Coast Guard told News4Jax last week that this is an operational milestone that marks the beginning of the final phases of the response to the Golden Ray incident. Miller confirmed to the newspaper that Officials are testing crew members who were in contact with the nine who tested positive and they are now in quarantine. The Golden Ray is referred to as a RoRo a roll-on, roll-off shop so cars can be driven on and off. With nine members tested positive, this will delay in the removal operations by a couple of weeks, the Brunswick News reported.

Kyah Melissa Aldridge, 48, has been charged with 15 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. Officers found the cats while conducting a welfare check at the home on Stonewall Street. News4Jax has requested the report from City of Brunswick Police. Citing the incident report, the Brunswick News wrote that police “noticed a foul smell and flies on the windows, as well as three-week-old dated mail in the mailbox."

Crews have spent a year bringing the 80-plus-year-old Sidney Lanier Building up to date, according to the Brunswick News. Work included upgrading electrical and plumbing systems, replacing windows and adding a fresh coat of paint. Students and faculty returning to school this fall will be greeted by a renovated art room, computer labs and special education facility, among other improvements made to the aging building, according to the newspaper's report. The facility will reportedly stay closed for the upcoming school year while it receives a $7 million facelift of its own.

When they arrived, police said, they found 35-year-old Glynn County resident Antonio Randolph dead in a yard. Police said they are looking into whether Randolph's murder is connected to the shots fired call in the area during the night. Brian Scott, chief of staff of the Glynn County police, told the newspaper they were "still putting the pieces together" to see if the shots fired and the man's death were related. Police are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Randolph's death.
