The new names are Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Patrick Space Force Base. The base, south of Cape Canaveral in Brevard County, is one of six finalists to be command headquarters for Space Force. Other potential sites are Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, Port San Antonio in Texas and Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. SPACECOM, established in August 2019, remains temporarily housed at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.

If the orbital demo goes well, the first Starliner crew could be rocketing to the space station by summer. SpaceX got $2.6 billion for its crew capsule, an upscale version of its Dragon cargo ship, flying since 2012. In a first for a U.S. crew capsule bound for orbit, the Starliner will aim for a land, versus water, landing.

Teams at Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station and Patrick Air Force Base have begun taking steps to prepare for Hurricane Dorian. As of Wednesday at 2 p.m., the National Hurricane Center put the space center in the storm's cone of uncertainty with a landfall sometime Sunday as a Category 3 hurricane. The 6-million-pound crawler carried Saturn V, the space shuttle and will eventually carry the Space Launch System out to the launch pad. Ahead of any storm, NASA will close Kennedy Space Center and only a small team of specialists, known as the Ride-out-Team, will remain.

(CNN) - NASA's Parker Solar Probe launched a year ago on a mission to touch the sun. He was the first the theorize solar wind, the flow of charged gases from the sun, present in most of the solar system. WISPR has returned images of the solar wind streaming out from the sun from its first pass in November. The mission's objectives include "tracing the flow of energy that heats and accelerates the sun's corona and solar wind, determining the structure and dynamics of the plasma and magnetic fields at the sources of the solar wind and explore mechanisms that accelerate and transport energetic particles."
