Horizon Terminal Services and SSA Atlantic, LLC, have reached settlements, while Hoegh Autoliners and Grimaldi Deep Sea SPA remain as the remaining defendants. The fire, which occurred on a 15-floor cargo ship loaded with cars bound for western Africa, resulted in injuries to at least 10 firefighters during firefighting efforts. The cause of the fire was determined to be an improperly secured and loaded car on the ship. The remaining defendants are scheduled to go to trial on April 4th of this year.

The law firm Pajcic & Pajcic filed a lawsuit on behalf of 10 Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department employees on Tuesday, 90 days after an explosion that severely injured some of them. “And you have nowhere to go.”At a news conference Tuesday, the Jacksonville-based lawyer described what the Jacksonville firefighters faced putting out a 1,000 degree Fahrenheit fire on a ship filled with scrapped cars. This ship had no standpipes that the firefighters could plug their hoses in to put out the fire,” he added. The suit claims the crew loaded wrecked and junk cars to send to Africa without disconnecting the batteries and electrical systems.
