Democrat Angie Nixon is seeking re-election in Florida House District 13, which covers most of Northwest Jacksonville and the near Westside, west of I-95, north of 103rd Street, east of Chaffee Road and McGirts Creek.

Crews will begin resurfacing I-10 from Chaffee Road to I-295 in late April as the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is prioritizing the corridor to improve conditions, the agency announced on Tuesday.

The News4JAX I-TEAM has reported on multiple damage claims from people driving I-10 between Chaffee Road and Hammond Boulevard. And the damage is due to construction and broke asphalt. So, we went to an asphalt company, not affiliated with the I-10 construction, to find out what materials are used to make roads.

One person was killed and another one was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following a multi-vehicle crash on Chaffee Road Sunday morning, according to first responders.

A stretch of Interstate 10 between Chaffee Road and Hammond Boulevard has been a concern for hundreds of drivers who reached out to News4JAX to say their cars were damaged from loose asphalt on the road.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A 36-year-old Middleburg man was killed in an early morning crash Saturday on I-10 east of Chaffee Road in Jacksonville, the Florida Highway Patrol said. According to the FHP crash report, the man was driving eastbound on I-10 just after 2 a.m. when his van was hit from behind by an SUV that was traveling faster than the van. The impact caused the van driver to lose control and drive off the road where the van flipped, ejecting the man, who was not wearing a seat belt, troopers said. The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. The 37-year-old man driving the SUV suffered minor injuries, according to the report.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a crash involving a semi truck and a car on eastbound Interstate-10 near the Chaffee Road exit Saturday evening. In a tweet JFRD relayed that multiple people were injured and that some of the injuries were serious. As of 9 p.m. Saturday Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed the scene had cleared.

Two of three westbound lanes of Interstate 10 were closed for several hours after a crash at Chaffee Road. The Florida Highway Patrol said Dennis Walton, 68, of Jacksonville, died after his Kia Soul left I-10 at 10:40 a.m. and landed in a culvert. Troopers said the driver’s side of the Kia first struck the guard rail off the left side of the highway and was directed to the right, where it left the road and struck the concrete draining system. Walton died at the scene. Sky 4 aerials showed a pickup truck towing a trailer jackknifed and a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office cruiser with rear-end damage both on the highway just past the fatal crash but troopers said that was from a secondary accident.
