A raccoon on Jekyll Island in Glynn County has tested positive for rabies.

The Georgia Department of Public Health on Wednesday announced the Coastal Health District’s monkeypox vaccination program was expanding.

The number of cases of monkeypox is growing in the United States. As of August 1, there are more than 5,000 cases in the U.S.

About 1 in 5 people have an STD and half of all new STD cases are in young people between the ages of 15 and 24, the Georgia Department of Public Health said.

Three clinics in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Coastal Health District, including one in Glynn County, on Monday, Nov. 8, will begin offering pediatric doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages to 11.

The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) said Tuesday it will wait on recommendations from the CDC and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) before releasing a plan to administer booster doses of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine in Georgia.

Beginning Aug. 3, free COVID-19 testing will be available by appointment every Tuesday and Thursday morning at the Camden County Health Department in St. Marys.

The Coastal Health District is now scheduling appointments for special Pfizer vaccine clinics at seven health department locations, including in Camden County.

There are two upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics scheduled this month in Camden County, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Coastal Health District.

The health departments of the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Coastal Health District, which includes Camden and Glynn counties, are now offering COVID-19 vaccinations without appointments during specific times.

The Georgia Department of Public Health’s Coastal Health District will provide the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine at vaccination events this month in Liberty and Camden counties.

The Georgia Department of Public Health on Monday received the first shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine for administration in Georgia. Shipments of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Coastal Georgia at two public health locations with ultracold freezers required for storage and temperature control of the vaccine. An online portal is now available for scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine appointment through the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Coastal Health District. Of those cases, 85 were reported in the six Southeast Georgia counties tracked by News4Jax. Eleven days ago the Coastal Health District, which serves part of Southeast Georgia, announced its temporarily pausing appointment scheduling to get the vaccine. The Coastal Health District said the health departments in all eight counties that it serves have enough requests to schedule appointments through February and, in some cases, into March. Over at the Southeast Georgia Health System, it’s offering vaccines in Brunswick and Kingsland based on availability and by appointment only. The Coastal Health District is asking for doctors, nurses, and pharmacists as well as nonmedical volunteers to help with the rollout.

The Southeast Georgia Health District that began scheduling appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations for those 65-years-old and older and their caregivers on Thursday has been overwhelmed by demand. Emergency first responders, healthcare workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities are also eligible for the vaccine during the current phase. The Coastal Health District, which serves the counties of Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long and McIntosh, said there are about 100,000 people in that age group in the area. We sincerely hope that shortly there will be a community-wide network of providers (pharmacies, private physicians, health clinics, etc.) Your health department is staffed by a dedicated, scrappy bunch, but we are small and the task is large.

Today was very exciting in the Coastal Health District, as we were the first location in the state to receive COVID-19 vaccine. Initial vaccine supply is limited, so it is being prioritized for healthcare personnel. One of the challenges for the Coastal Health District is the “cold chain,” a term that describes an uninterrupted, temperature-controlled supply chain.

Health care workers in Georgia began to receive the coronavirus vaccine on Monday. CVS and Walgreens pharmacies in Florida will also receive 60,000 doses to distribute at long-term care facilities, and the state will get 20,000 to administer at care facilities, as well.

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Public Health’s Coastal Health District is adjusting the COVID-19 testing schedule in Camden County as demand increases for flu vaccinations and other public health services. Beginning next week, COVID-19 testing will be available every Tuesday by appointment at the Camden County Health Department, located at 905 Dilworth Street in St. Marys. “We’ve seen a decline in COVID-19 testing numbers in our district, and the same is true statewide,” said Dr. Lawton Davis, health director of the Coastal Health District. And if testing demand increases in the future, we’ll adjust accordingly.”There are two options for scheduling an appointment for free COVID-19 testing through DPH. Camden and Glynn counties are switching to appointment-only testing for COVID-19 to prevent long lines and wait times at area testing sites. GLYNN COUNTY, Fla. The Department of Public Health in Georgia reported 505 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Glynn County on Friday -- an increase of about 200 cases in the county since Monday. Five days ago, the state reported a total of 308 cases in Glynn. For comparison, about 30 days ago, there were a total of 101 reported cases in Glynn County, a county with a population of just over 86,000. Were experiencing a significant increase in the number of people wanting to be tested for the virus, said Adam Sanchez with the Glynn County Health Department. As of Thursday, the Southeast Georgia Health System had 18 positive inpatients at its Brunswick Campus, according to the website.
