The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is following a new lead into the disappearance of a woman who was last seen in late May.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is warning the community about a new scam where families of inmates are being contacted by people pretending to be bail bondsmen.

A Lake City man who is legally blind, is suing the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, the City of Lake City and Columbia County. The lawsuit stems from the man's arrest on October 31 while he was walking home from jury duty.

A 40-year-old Lake City man died as he was fleeing the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on U.S. Highway 90 Wednesday night, a Florida Highway Patrol crash report shows.

Deputies on Thursday arrested three men and a woman from North Carolina suspected of trying to swindle money from internet gaming establishments in Columbia County.

The post said a man bailed from a car in the area of State Road 47 and Wester Road near the Southwoods subdivision. A detailed description and name were not provided. Columbia County first responders were exposed to fentanyl while attempting to administer first aid to a person who overdosed Thursday, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. Authorities said first responders showed up to a home where there was a possible overdose in Columbia County. Authorities discovered an unconscious man, as well as other people in the house when they first arrived. "This illustrates the potential danger all first responders are exposed to every shift. "We are extremely relieved that the first responders exposed have been cleared by medical professionals."

LAKE CITY, Fla - A Lake City homeowner stopped a burglary in progress Wednesday night and tried to hold the would-be thief at gunpoint until deputies arrived, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office said. The accused burglar, later identified as Elbert Gilliard IV, ran out of the house but was spotted coming out of nearby woods, deputies said. One of the responding deputies quickly recognized Gilliard, 32, because of his distinctive facial tattoo. According to his arrest report, Gilliard was found inside a Carpenter Road home about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. When the homeowner discovered Gilliard in his house, he pulled out his .22-caliber pistol and tried to hold Gilliard at gunpoint while he called authorities, deputies said.

LAKE CITY, Fla. – Three kilos of cocaine were found on two different JetBlue jets at a hangar in Lake City, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday. Then on Sunday, two additional kilos of cocaine were found on a different JetBlue A320 aircraft in the exact same area as the first. The Sheriff's Office told News4Jax that JetBlue aircrafts go to HAECO regularly for service, but the airline does not have flights out of the Lake City Airport. "We are pretty confident that maybe someone is missing three kilos of cocaine and they are wondering where it is. The Lake City Police Department, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Drug Enforcement Agency, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives will be assisting the Sheriff's Office in the investigation.

LAKE CITY, Fla. – A Lake City woman was arrested Monday and charged with burglary after detectives found stolen property in her yard and home, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office. Detectives identified Brandy Colwell, 30, as a suspect in several recent burglaries that occurred in the Lake City Country Club. They found stolen property in her yard and house, according to the CCSO. During an interview with detectives, Colwell admitted her 13-year-old child was with her during a burglary where a victim fired a gun as they fled the scene, according to CCSO. Colwell is being held in the Columbia County Detention facility on no bond, pending at least nine other burglary charges.
