GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – A major interchange in Clay County is a step closer to being named after a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy who died last year with complications of COVID-19. The County Commission unanimously approved Tuesday afternoon to rename the intersection of State Road 23 (First Coast Expressway) and Henley Road as Sgt. Eric John Twisdale Memorial Interchange. Twisdale was a deputy with CCSO since 1998 and worked with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office before that. The Sheriff’s Office said Twisdale acquired the virus on the job.

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – Adult arcades, or cyber cafes, are set to close their doors on Friday in Nassau County by order of the County Commission. The judge determined county commissioners acted within their authority to deal with the ongoing crime problems at the arcades. County officials have been under pressure to close the arcades because of concerns that the coronavirus could be spread within the businesses. In Yulee, there are 13 adult arcades. BecauseThe Nassau County Board of Commissioners voted them out as of the end of this month, but some believe they should have been closed sooner.

All restaurants in Camden County were ordered to discontinue onsite food and beverage consumption at noon Tuesday. As Georgia’s coronavirus caseload continues to grow, Camden County continues to ask residents to stay home after dark in hopes of limiting the spread of the virus. A voluntary curfew from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. was instituted in the county on Monday. Camden County does not any cases of its own, but a Charlton County patient is being treated Southeast Georgia Health System’s Camden campus. So far, four cases have been identified in nearby Glynn County and a case was identified Monday in Pierce County.

But on Monday, the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council, which is the body that runs all Girl Scout groups in North Florida, withdrew its plans for a change in future land use. But the County Commission was still required to discuss it because it was on the agenda and multiple neighbors planned to attend. The plan for the Girl Scouts was to sell the land to a company called Ancient City Land Management. Now, the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council isn't sure what to do next. She said the Girl Scouts own five camps and the camp in Middleburg is the only one not owned outright.

There were tense moments during a Clay County school board meeting Tuesday about a lawsuit filed against the County Commission over putting a half-cent sales tax resolution on a ballot.
