Key West Mayor Teri Johnston signed an emergency order Friday that sets an island-wide curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m., running Thursday, Dec. 31, through Sunday, Jan. 3. The curfew does not apply to unincorporated Monroe County, which includes the remainder of the Florida Keys, said county mayor Michelle Coldiron. Duval Street typically attracts tens of thousands to celebrate the New Year and watch a giant red shoe with the drag queen inside drop at midnight. Health officials continue to stress that residents and visitors should wear facial coverings, which are mandatory in the Keys, practice social distancing and wash hands frequently.

The office could not provide any further information, but we did leave a message for the Public Information Officer. Many cities across the country, including Jacksonville, have issued temporary curfews in response to national protests prompted by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

As Georgia’s coronavirus caseload continues to grow, Camden County continues to ask residents to stay home after dark in hopes of limiting the spread of the virus. A voluntary curfew from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. was instituted in the county on Monday. Camden County does not any cases of its own, but a Charlton County patient is being treated Southeast Georgia Health System’s Camden campus. So far, four cases have been identified in nearby Glynn County and a case was identified Monday in Pierce County.
