According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, crews responded about 7:40 p.m. to a manufactured home engulfed in flames on Messer Road, near the intersection of Garden Street and Jones Road. While putting out the fire, according to police, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department found an adult inside the residence who died in the fire. An incident report shows a neighbor told police that he was awakened by a loud pop and his house lights flickered. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500.

Shawnell Mahone, 21, was reported missing Thursday, Aug. 15, after he was last seen about 11 p.m. Aug. 14, according to a missing persons report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Though he could not confirm whether the body belonged to a missing person, the missing persons report shows the case was routed to the homicide unit. Doug Molina said officers responded about 1 p.m. to the area of Garden Street and Paxton Road after a person driving by spotted the body of a male close to the side of the road and called 911. It's unclear whether there were any injuries to the body or how the person died. Molina said the body was not covered. He could not confirm whether the body belonged to a missing person.
