He showed up with a carload full of laptop computers and gave them to Raines students. Kindley hand delivered 22 new Lenovo laptops to students at the school. “I got called out of class, I was like, ‘what do they need me in the office for?’ They were like, ‘it’s a surprise, it’s a surprise.’ And it was a great surprise. “They came back and just inspired me,” Kindley said of former Raines players who came back to the school, sometimes with gifts, but most times with just their presence.

Donovan Masline is very aware of the expectations at Raines, and the new head coach of the Vikings is embracing those expectations as he prepares for his first season as a head coach. When Deran Wiley suddenly stepped down after last season, there were questions about Raines football future. It was April in 2012, and I hadnt even graduated yet and (Wiley) gave me an opportunity, Masline said. It was my first high school interception on the varsity level as a true freshman.

Former Raines football player and defensive coordinator Donovan Masline was named the Vikings new head coach on Friday and will try and keep the tradition alive and thriving. Masline had been serving as the programs interim head coach since Deran Wiley, another former Raines alum, resigned in early March. Hes a good young coach, ready to take the reins and lead Raines.Masline, 29, is a Raines product who went on to play cornerback at Alabama State. Wiley, like Masline, served as the teams defensive coordinator before being promoted to head coach.
