Road improvements can possibly be seen next year on Jacksonville’s northside after the Jacksonville City Council Finance Committee approved $1.5 million for infrastructure.

Several people on Jacksonville’s northside were surprised to learn their money from their electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards was drained from skimmers at different stores.

Police said they learned that three people were transported to area hospitals with injuries that appeared to be non-life-threatening. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man was killed Saturday afternoon in an apparent drive-by shooting on Dunn Avenue, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. According to JSO, the victim was driving west in the 6000 block of Dunn Avenue in North Jacksonville when someone drove up next to him and shot into the car several times. The victim then crashed off the side of the road, JSO said. When they arrived, they said they saw an adult man was inside the car with one gunshot wound. News4Jax asked JSO if there were multiple guns, but they said it appears it was all from the same gun.

Adam Blinn said units were dispatched to Valero gas station on Harts Road north of Dunn Avenue just after 4:30 p.m. “It appears there was a fight between several individuals just prior to the gunshots,” Blinn said. He did not have the make and model of the vehicle, which was heading north on Harts Road. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating three separate fatal crashes in Duval County in just two hours. The first crash happened around 10 Thursday night when a car hit a pedestrian at the Dunn Avenue entrance ramp on I-295 northbound. The crash report shows a 62-year-old man was walking across State Road 134 when a car traveling eastbound on State Road 134 hit him. The crash report shows both vehicles were traveling eastbound on State road 134 veering onto US-17. Names of the drivers involved in the crashes have been withheld by Florida Highway Patrol, as is standard procedure.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating after a pedestrian was hit by a car Thursday night in Jacksonville. The crash happened around 10 Thursday night when a car hit a pedestrian at the Dunn Avenue entrance ramp on I-295 northbound. FHP’s crash report shows a 78-year-old man was killed after he was hit by an approaching sedan. The man was walking in the center of the right lane on the entrance ramp. He died on the scene.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A woman is dead after a she was run over on Dunn Avenue at Harts Road in Jacksonville. Florida Highway Patrol Investigators said the crash happened when the woman was attempting to get to opposite side of the road when a 53-year-old driver in a pick-up truck traveling in the right lane of Dunn Avenue, hit her. The woman was rushed to the hospital but she died from her injuries. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 54-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday afternoon in a crash in the Highlands area of the Northside, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the motorcyclist, John Mason, was headed west on Dunn Avenue near Armsdale Road about 2:45 p.m. when a Chevy Silverado turned left onto Dunn Avenue from Armsdale Road, across the motorcycle’s path. A woman told News4Jax she stopped to help Mason as he was lying in the road. “I knew it was going to happen, and I told my daughter they are not going to put a light there until someone gets killed, and that’s just what happened," said Jennie Talley, who lives near Dunn Avenue. The crash shut down both directions of Dunn Avenue between Pine Estates Road and Biscayne Boulevard for several hours.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A wreck Wednesday involving two semitractor-trailers forced all northbound lanes of Interstate 95 just before Interstate 295 near Jacksonville International Airport to close for hours. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, two semitractor-trailers were traveling northbound on I-95 at I-295, alongside one another, about 11 a.m. when the driver of one of them braked to avoid striking a disabled vehicle in the travel lane. That's when the semitrailer jackknifed, causing the driver to lose control and strike the second semitrailer, troopers said. Firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said hazmat crews were dispatched because of diesel fuel leaking from the trucks. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and critically injured Tuesday morning on Jacksonville's Northside, the Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash happened about 6:15 a.m. on Dunn Avenue just west of Biscayne Boulevard. According to the Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Sonic was traveling east in the right lane of Dunn Avenue when it struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The driver of the Sonic, a 66-year-old Jacksonville woman, was not injured, the Highway Patrol said. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Dunn Avenue was temporarily closed in both directions from Armsdale Road to Marc Vic Lane due to the crash.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call in reference to a dispute that resulted in a fight at a local business in the 2900 block of Dunn Avenue, at 2:25 p.m. Saturday. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a person who appeared to be suffering from serious injuries. They were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for those injuries. Motorists traveling northbound I-295 wishing to exit to Lem Turner Road will detour to Duval Road (Exit 33), return to I-295 and travel south to exit Lem Turner Road. Drivers will detour via Dunn Avenue and use the I-295 southbound entrance ramp. Also, on Tuesday, the I-295 northbound entrance ramp from Duval Road will be closed. On Wednesday, the I-295 northbound and southbound exit ramps to Duval Road will be closed. Drivers will be detoured to Lem Turner Road (Exit 32) and travel east on Dunn Avenue to return to Duval Road.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 4-year-old girl who was pulled from a retention pond in the Dunns Crossing subdivision has died, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The young girl was pulled from the pond Tuesday evening near the intersection of Johnson Creek Circle and Robert Masters Boulevard. She was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but later died from her injuries, police said. Jannette Akins-Jones, a neighbor, said the child's grandmother was looking for the young girl and found her unresponsive. "You're doing everything you can to try to revive her and there's no life," Akins-Jones said.
