A Jacksonville man found guilty of posting sex videos of his ex-girlfriend on Instagram without her consent will spend nine months in the Duval County Jail followed by three months of GPS monitoring.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a corrections officer has been arrested and accused of misdemeanor battery and official misconduct.

A push to move the Duval County jail is gaining steam and now a conversation is brewing about also moving the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office administrative headquarters.

There are officially 217 vacancies within the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and that number is expected to grow.

Fifteen inmates have died in the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office so far this year. The latest death happened early Tuesday morning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported two inmate deaths at the Duval County Jail, bringing the in-custody death total to over 10 inmates this year.

Jacksonville city leaders say the current Duval County Jail is falling apart and millions needs to be spent to bring it up to par. During a special city council meeting Friday, council members talked about problems at the jail, including mold and structural issues.

On Monday, a 68-year-old transient man at the Duval County jail died nearly two weeks after being arrested on a misdemeanor trespassing charge. He couldn’t afford the $2,500 bond.

A man who was in the Duval County jail after he was arrested and accused of trespassing at a local hospital died Monday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Jacksonville City Council members will meet Thursday to discuss the possibility of relocating the Duval County jail.

The Jacksonville City Council is still working on plans to move the jail from its current location downtown to another area of town but it could take years before that happens.

The I-TEAM is learning new details about a woman who died at the Duval County Jail on Monday. Rebecca "Becky" Faircloth was 62-years-old. Over the past two years, at least seven people have died at the Duval County Jail.

Another inmate has died in the Duval County Jail from a medical episode. Rebecca Faircloth, 62, was arrested in 2021. She was sentenced Friday to ten years in prison for attempted murder and firearms charges. She died in jail Monday. This comes weeks after JSO announced NaphCare will provide healthcare at the jail, taking over for Armor.

Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters and Mayor Donna Deegan held a news conference on Tuesday evening to announce the end of a $98 million contract with Armor Correctional Health Services, which administers healthcare to inmates at the Duval County jail.

An inmate in the Duval County Jail was found unresponsive Friday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Questions about whether inmates were getting their prescriptions here at the jail go back to at least 2018. There are also reports of medications disappearing.

Devonte Ledbetter was already in custody at the Duval County Jail for unrelated burglary charges when he was re-arrested on the murder charge Thursday, JSO said.

LaTerres Bryant, 47, has been charged with second-degree murder and is the Duval County Jail. The victim’s brother, who also lives in the house told News4Jax at the time, he found his brother laying on the floor with a stone in his right hand. Police had said the victim’s cause of death was undetermined, but now say he had blunt force trauma injuries. News4Jax requested more information from the Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville woman is accused of smuggling a loaded revolver into the Duval County jail following her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to the report, McCoy reached into her pants and pulled out a revolver. According to the report, McCoy alluded to having a gun during a phone call she made while being booked. News4Jax Crime and Safety Expert Ken Jefferson, a former Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officer, chalked it up to human error. “That officer had a good training officer,” he said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the chase began at 7:18 a.m. at Old St. Augustine and I-295 when a trooper spotted a reckless driver going north at 100 mph. That trooper tried to get the driver to pull over, but a chase ensued. A second trooper joined the pursuit as they crossed Buckman Bridge heading toward Orange Park. It was just the flipped car with any damage.”Michael Bennett was also driving across the bridge and saw the whole thing happen. News4Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson, who is a former Jacksonville police officer, said he questions the use of the PIT maneuver.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Elizabeth McNew’s death sent shockwaves through the Atlantic Beach community. McNew died Sept. 25 of complications after contracting COVID-19. News4Jax has learned that McNew’s father and older brother both tested positive for COVID-19 but neither got sick as a result. McNew’s father works as a corrections officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, but JSO said contact tracing has eliminated any possibility of work exposure. Members of the Atlantic Beach Elementary School community are trying to help the family raise money for pay for mounting medical bills.

A Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the agency is following all guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the jail. Nationwide, the number of prisoners who test positive for COVID-19 is 5.5 times higher than the general population, according to CNN. “My roommate tested positive for coronavirus and they moved him out of here. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office acknowledged that those who test positive or show symptoms are being quarantined.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nearly 50 more nonviolent, low-level offenders were released this month from the Duval County jail. This comes as the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has spent the last month dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak inside the Pre-Trial Detention Facility. According to the State Attorney’s Office, at least some of the inmates released so far are among those who’ve tested positive. The doctor later tested positive, according to the sheriff, and has since been fired. The Duval Regional Juvenile Detention Center has five youths and one staff member who have tested positive, according to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Visitation hours have resumed at the Duval County jail, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Friday evening. The Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that visitation hours were cancelled after a section of glass attached to the front of the building broke loose. On Friday, JSO said the necessary repairs were made to the Pre-Trial Detention Facility. The public reception area and sidewalk between the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and Police Memorial Building were also closed off due to safety concerns. That too has reopened.

Investigators say they caught Boman in a stolen car on the Westside he was booked into the Duval County Jail.
