Sweden players celebrate with their third place medals following their sides victory in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup France 3rd Place Match match between England and Sweden at Stade de Nice on July 6 in Nice, France. (Photo by Robert(CNN) - A third-place playoff is the toughest of gigs for teams that had had high hopes of reaching a World Cup final. Not that anybody had told Sweden, who came out of the blocks to take the Women's World Cup bronze medal, after securing a 2-1 win over England at the Stade de Nice on Saturday. It's the third time that Sweden has secured bronze after winning the third-place playoff games in 1991 and 2011. On Sunday, the USWNT will face the Netherlands in the Women's World Cup final in Lyon.

Stuart Franklin/Getty Images(CNN) - The U.S. Women's National Soccer team has caused quite the stir with its celebrations at the Women's World Cup, and Alex Morgan became the latest to milk a goal in Lyon on Tuesday. Approximately 100 million cups of tea are drunk by the British each day-- almost 36 billion per year -- according to the UK Tea and Infusions Association. Morgan's celebration was lapped up by some, notably Hillary Clinton: "Congrats to the #USWNT for earning that tea," the 2016 presidential candidate tweeted. Morgan's celebration proved not to be everyone's cup of tea. As the World Cup reaches boiling point, there is still plenty more drama brewing.

USWNT advances to Women's World Cup final

(CNN) - For the ability to rise to the occasion, for the aptitude to turn a blind eye to pressure and produce on the grandest of stages, there is still no team quite like the US as the defending champion saw off a talented England team 2-1 to reach the Women's World Cup final. Though challenged by the world's finest teams in the knockouts, the USWNT remains firmly on its perch. Megan Rapinoe, the match winner in both the last-16 and quarterfinal ties, started on the substitutes' bench, to the surprise of many. After much of the pre-match talk centered on Lucy Bronze going head-to-head with Rapinoe it was Press the England player -- dubbed the best in the world by her manager Phil Neville -- had to shackle. Again, the US' game plan worked, though in the closing stages the USWNT had to hold on.

England awaits either USA or France in semifinals after Lionesses beat Norway

Read full article: England awaits either USA or France in semifinals after Lionesses beat Norway

(CNN) - England scored the fastest goal of this year's Women's World Cup as it beat Norway 3-0 to progress into the last four of the tournament. In the process, the Lionesses became the first England side to reach three consecutive semifinals at major tournaments, progressing to the last four at the Women's World Cup in 2015 and the European Championship in 2017. 12 Norway is ranked nine places lower than Thursday's opponents, and spent much of the match chasing an England side brimming with confidence. "I've been dreaming of playing in Lyon and getting to that semifinal again," said Player of the Match Bronze. The score could have been worse for the 1995 World Cup champions if goalkeeper Ingrid Hjelmseth hadn't saved Nikita Parris' penalty in the closing stages.
